The Nevada State AFL-CIO is proud to present our inaugural continuing education scholarships named after former SEIU 1107 Exec. Director, Grace Mactal at our 70th Constitutional Convention.

Two scholarships of $2,500 were awarded to two union members who are pursuing higher or continuing their education to better themselves. Congratulations to David Green from Bricklayers Local 13, and Elizabeth Sanchez from TWU Local 557 for being this years’ scholarship recipients!

Officials said they have identified only 185 potential noncitizen voters in the state so far, and the number they originally gave was a "ceiling."

Workers over machines: not a crazy concept, but for some corporations the goal is to make workers obsolete.

We’re proud to have leaders in our state, and in the nation’s largest economy next door who care about the livelihood of the working-class and are fighting day in and day out to ensure that we’re not left behind.

Workshop Wednesday!

The first day of our 70th Constitutional Convention included lesson-packed workshops from our community partners, campaign manager, & lobbyists.

Legislative 101: Delegates got an introduction to the legislative process and how working people can effectively engage with lawmakers and advocate for issues that matter to Nevada workers. Lobbyists Wendy Colborne of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada and Andy Donahue have decades of legislative experience and outlined the basics of how bills live and die Nevada's legislature.

Nevada Nonprofit Panel: Lauren Allen, Corporate Partnerships Manager at United Way of Southern Nevada, moderated a conversation featuring Janet Quintero, Chief Strategy and Advocacy Officer at United Way of Southern Nevada; Sylvia Rondeaux, Executive Director of the Northern Nevada Members Assistance Program; Evelyn Valencia Executive Director of the United Labor Agency of Nevada; and Marissa Shoop, Vice President of Strategy and Impact at Three Square. The panel highlighted the vital resources and services available to our members and their families, and the importance of strong partnerships between the labor movement and community organizations.

Workers’ Compensation Process: GGRM Law Firm Nevada’s premier injury law firm and a proud sponsor of the 70th Annual Constitutional Convention, walked delegates through the workers’ compensation process and what workers need to know when navigating an injury on the job.

New Delegate Training: Nevada State AFL-CIO Campaign Manager, Larry Flanrey led an overview of new delegates' role and responsibilities, helping ensure they are prepared to participate fully in the work of our convention and our labor movement.
