The Veterans Action Foundation and the Knights of Columbus visited the veterans at the Veterans Home and served them Pizza from Vinnie's Little Italy in Boulder City. Today, we honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who were wounded or killed in service to our nation.
Purple Heart Day commemorates the courage, sacrifice, and service represented by our nationโ€™s oldest military decoration. Established by General George Washington on August 7, 1782, the Purple Heart recognizes those who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action.
The Purple Heart is not a medal that is soughtโ€”it is a medal earned through sacrifice. Each Purple Heart represents courage, service, and, in many cases, bloodshed in defense of our nation and the freedoms we hold dear.
