FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Henderson Community Foundation Awarded $10,000 Good Neighbor Grant to Support Local Businesses and Residents
Henderson, MN —

The Henderson Community Foundation has been awarded a $10,000 Good Neighbor Grant through a partnership between the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) and the McKnight Foundation. The funding will be used to support Henderson residents and local businesses during the community’s traditionally slower economic period from January through March.

The Good Neighbor Grant Program is designed to strengthen communities by addressing local needs and supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life. This grant will help the Henderson Community Foundation provide targeted assistance during the winter months, when reduced tourism and seasonal slowdowns can place financial strain on both households and businesses.
Additional details about how the funds will be distributed and how residents and businesses can participate will be announced by the Henderson Community Foundation soon.

Henderson Community Foundation Announces Local Grant Opportunity

Henderson area community organizations are encouraged to apply for the Henderson Community Foundation’s annual Community Improvement grant awards. Funds will be offered to one or more Henderson area non-profits for projects deemed to improve the community or fulfill a particular need. The project(s) may be in partnership with other organizations. The grant is the result of interest earned on donations made to the Henderson Community Foundation’s endowment fund.

Parameters for the grants include impact on the community, partner support for the project(s), involvement of volunteers, and charitable non-profit status within the Henderson service area.

Interested organizations are asked to go to the Henderson Community Foundation’s page, where they will find the application form. Proposals are due August 15th and can be submitted online. Last year's grants were awarded to Henderson Recreation, Historic Henderson Auto Society, and Santa’s Helpers of Sibley County. This year's grant(s) will be announced September 15th.

With each gift to the Henderson Community Foundation’s endowment fund, it is not only a way for folks to pay back but a way to pay forward for many years to come. Your donation keeps on giving each year in the form of the Community Improvement grant(s). Please consider a gift to the future of our town. Each year the endowment grows, more and possibly larger community improvement grants will be made. Interest available is based on a three-year rolling interest average less modest local foundation expenses, such as postage, printing and promotions. The funds are managed by the Southeastern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. Local advisory board members are: Sarah Schuette, Dee Braatz, Mike Reinhardt, Jeff Steinborn, Troy Koester and Doug Thomas. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 21, Henderson.

Please note that your project start date must fall within twelve months of the receipt of this Grant. Grant funds will be forfeited and returned to the Henderson Community Foundation in their entirety should this requirement not be met.
