Let me tell you how insanely proud I am of Marta Malavich, mama Hall Across the Country. After both of us performing less than we wanted two weeks ago she came out with me and signed up for her first 25k (15.5 miles) Two weeks ago she managed 10.8 miles in 24 hours, today she SMASHED 15.5 in just over 12. She struggled on her second lap, to the point of wanting to quit. I wanted her to accomplish her goals and I tried motivating her.
I explained that doing things like this are about being hurt and pushing through when you don’t think you can. As I approached the start line to begin my final lap I messaged her to come back out, and I’d slow my pace down and we’d finish our races together. Me a 50k, my first non-fixed time finish and mom her first 25k. She doubted herself but SHE FINISHED. I am extremely proud of her. THAT is why I do these things, to push myself and help her to push herself past being comfortable to realize that you are stronger than you can possibly fathom.
Thank you to the people with Race Brimstone for making the Eagle Up 24 hour ultra one to remember for me. I did okay myself, I was on pace to finish my 31.1 miles in around 11 hours, which is a stark contrast from struggling to get 16 miles in 24 hours two weeks ago. Especially with the huge worry that my hernia repair from ‘23 has failed or I’ve got new hernia issues, see the doc Monday to hopefully get referred for some scans.
If you ever doubt yourself about anything, just show up, and give it all you’ve got. Forward progress, no matter how small, is still progress.
Much Love you guys!!!!
