Good morning.

How many of you really understand what domestic violence is?

💜🦋💜

To most of you domestic violence is just physical. I seen him slap her. I seen her spit in his face. I seen the slap. I seen the punch. I seen the hair pulling. If you see the bruise, it must be real, however, what happens when you don’t see the bruise. Then they’re lying. They made it up. It’s not real.

I ask the question on this Saturday how many of you have really took the time to understand what domestic violence is. The majority of you probably haven’t took the time because it hasn’t affected you yet. We all have this misconception that domestic violence only affects poor white trash individuals.

I’m here to inform you that is far from the truth. It affects all race, religion, culture, creed and everything in between. It doesn’t skip this Judge. It doesn’t skip this Officer. It doesn’t skip the RN or doctor at the hospital. It skips no one. No one is immune.

You could live in the biggest house in town and have the most money, but you still can be a victim and survivor of domestic violence.

Unfortunately, some of us don’t want to address domestic violence nor admit they’re a product of it. Why? It makes them look bad. It doesn’t fit their image. Why would I wanna embark on that journey. This my friend is what I am struggling and having an issue with.

Domestic violence isn’t just physical. It is:

Mental
Verbal
Emotional
Psychological
Sexual
Spiritual
Financial

However, domestic violence has more depth than that such as subcomponents. Did you realize that? Do you understand that?

What are sub components? They intensify and already volatile situation.

Stalking
Kidnapping
Human trafficking
Intimidation
Unlawful detainment
Harassment

Strangulation

Homelessness

Drugs and alcohol addiction.
Mental health
Burglary, theft, fraud, robbery. They have to feed that addiction that was caused by the domestic situation. They will rob grandma of every item they get to feed their addiction.

They decide to sell drugs while being a user, and now they end up owing their drug dealer money, which turns into another situation.

STD and unwanted pregnancy potentially because of prostitution.

Overdose.

Sexual harassment
Sexual assault
R**e

Su***de. No one believed them.

Murder

I have been with heavy heart for this past week. We had again a murder/suicide of a domestic situation and an individual critically injured.

For those of you that don’t understand I’m Kristie Randolph. I am founder and director of The Chloe Randolph Organization, Inc., but most importantly I’m Chloe’s mother. I am made aware of any incident with domestic violence and most definitely any tragic situation.

I was made aware of the current situation in Owensboro this past week. So in a sense it’s like reliving your own tragedy and feeling like you failed the next tragedy. What could we have done different. What did we not do? What do we need to do?

I have a hard time of late with individuals and organizations that don’t understand domestic violence, they don’t want to assist in domestic violence, but expect a domestic violence group to assist them with what sub components of domestic violence and so far.

Often times that single mother or even father of the children that a group wants to help is a product of a domestic violence situation. We don’t take time to realize that because we don’t understand it. So I asked the question “are we just only helping the kids that are not in a domestic situation?” Did you take the time to understand that. However, then I have to listen to who unbelievably is a stakeholder saying well she just needs to find her a good man to take care of them kids. Then, the other one, “well if she hadn’t talked back and would’ve listened, he wouldn’t had to slap the s**t out of her.”

Next, “hey she is a cute little thing” She just got a little bit of a m**h addiction and alcohol addiction combined, but she’s cute. Let’s get her cleaned up and let’s give her a job so I can look at her all the time. Do you know why she has that addiction? Well, that person that you know was abusive, strangled her, held her against her will and got her addicted to the drugs and alcohol. Are we not gonna address him. We just gonna polish her up as you say, and give her a job so you, my friend can look at her every day. What do I know you’re the rehab people.

I could go on and on about individuals that should be responsive in helping us address domestic violence, and our stakeholders, but don’t want their own house investigated per se. They feel domestic violence is beneath them until it happens to their daughter. Until it happens to their son. Until they’re trying to cover up som**hing then we become front and center. What can you do to help me? Where were you when we needed funding for X. Where were you when we need that shelter in Henderson for domestic violence? Where were you. You were nowhere to be found.

So I’m having a real issue the last couple days in what are we gonna do come January when legislation opens. We need to right now get some things in motion. We need to get some bills written. We need to redirect some of our officers. I,100% believe and I’ve been very vocal about this, you have officers that shouldn’t be officers. You have officers that shouldn’t respond to domestic because they don’t even like themselves and they don’t even believe the domestic happen. The flipside of that is they are in their own domestic. I believe you have officers that want to help, but they’re just pounding their head against the wall as much as I am somedays.

I know sometimes we don’t realize that a lot of things are not at the discretion of the Judge. They’re not at the discretion of the Commonwealth and county attorneys, but they are ruled by legislation.

You know I started this organization because I will never know if leading up to Chloe s murder would she have went to somebody in this town or another town that was as vocal as I am. We didn’t have an advocate that was front and center. We knew domestic violence happened, but we just didn’t talk about it. Let’s push it under the rug.. Let’s put our head in the sand like an ostrich. Let’s turn a blind eye. Let’s just forget it exist. I will never know. My daughter was strong, independent, stand your ground, and stand down for no one. On a one-on-one fight, she would have took him but he was a coward. My daughter didn’t need the person that murdered her, but he needed her. If I cant have you nobody else will.

We are 27 days away from the start of domestic violence awareness month. We need to get up. We need to stand up. Those loud voices that we have for silly stuff, we need to redirect and let these kids know that are products of domestic violence. They have a voice, and they matter. We need to let our victims of domestic violence know they matter. Domestic violence doesn’t just affect women. It affects men as well.

The longer we stay silent, nothing changes.
