National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day highlights the importance of education and visibility around a growing public health concern. Pharmacists are often on the front lines, helping identify risk, counsel patients, and reinforce safe medication practices. Awareness is one of the most important tools in preventing harm and protecting communities.

Friday, Sept 18 | 3:00pm — Pediatric & Adult Immunization Update

Nevada's pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians remain among the most accessible immunization providers in the state — but the landscape keeps shifting. As vaccine authority and practice continue to evolve, staying current isn't optional.

Leading this session is Allison Hill, PharmD, RPh, Director of Professional Affairs at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), where she leads APhA's immunization vision and represents the Association across coalitions and work groups dedicated to expanding vaccine access nationwide. With over a decade of community pharmacy experience, Dr. Hill brings both national perspective and practical, on-the-ground expertise to this session.

She'll break down key updates to immunization schedules, federal and medical society recommendations, changes in vaccination authority, and essential clinical considerations — plus practical strategies to strengthen vaccine confidence and uptake in Nevada communities.

Congratulations to Dr. Leiana Oswald — Nevada's 2026 Bowl of Hygeia Award Winner! 🏆

Established in 1958, the Bowl of Hygeia is one of the most prestigious honors in pharmacy — recognizing pharmacists whose leadership and service reach far beyond the profession itself. This year, that honor belongs to Dr. Leiana Oswald, and it couldn't be more deserved. 💙

As a pharmacy professor at Roseman University, Leiana saw firsthand how overwhelming Medicare can be for patients and caregivers trying to navigate their options. So she built something to fix it: the Medicare Call Center — a program that has since grown to include medication reviews and pharmacist-led services, given student pharmacists invaluable hands-on experience, and saved Nevada seniors an estimated $2.5 million dollars. 📞💊

And she did all of this while teaching, serving in leadership roles, raising four children, securing grant funding, coaching youth volleyball, supporting efforts to fight food insecurity, and mentoring students and colleagues along the way.

Leiana has a gift for seeing a need and doing the hard work to meet it — sustainably, creatively, and with genuine care for her community. She represents everything pharmacists are capable of when they lead with heart.

Back-to-school season is an important time to ensure students are up to date on required immunizations. Pharmacists provide accessible vaccination services, help families navigate requirements, and support a healthy transition into the school year. Their role improves access and strengthens community health across Nevada.

Mid-year checkups are where gaps get caught early and outcomes get redirected.
Pharmacists are often the only provider consistently seeing patients between visits, making them essential in identifying adherence issues, therapy misalignment, and emerging risks before they escalate. Their role keeps care plans active, not reactive.
