Keep Henderson Beautiful

Keep Henderson Beautiful KHB strives to promote public interest in the general improvement and cleanliness of Henderson. This will also protect song birds and other water fowl.

Early in February 2008, several members of the Rusk County Master Gardeners met with city officials and community leaders to discuss and to expand their beautification ideas for Henderson. At this meeting, the members voted to pursue the application to the State of Texas for the Keep Henderson Beautiful program. The following is Article II - Purpose of the Keep Henderson Beautiful By-Laws. The pur

pose of this organization is to be charitable and educational, promote public interest in the general improvement of the environment to initiate, plan, direct, and coordinate programs for litter control and solid waste management for the community on a sustainable basis. Also to implement and maintain the Keep Texas Beautiful goals and to study, investigate, and develop plans for improving the health, sanitation, safety, and cleanliness of the City of Henderson. This will be done by beautifying the streets, highways, alleys, river, and stream banks, lots, yards, and other similar places in the city and county. This will aid in the prevention of fires, diseases, and other casualties by the removal and elimination of trash and other debris from the streets, highways, alleys, lots, yards, flowers, plants, shrubbery, and other objects or ornamentation in the city and county. Keep Henderson Beautiful will also advise and recommend plans to other agencies of the city and county. Keep Henderson Beautiful has been recognized by receiving the Governor's Community Achievement Award three times since its inception and has completed several local projects with grant money received through the program, as well as through private donations and assistance from the City of Henderson. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.

KHB was proud to work alongside Henderson's most committed community members, including The Hope Center's volunteers and beloved Hendersons sweetheart Harriet Craig.

Our morning's work included the distribution of 2 pallets of mulch, rose pruning, and garden w**ding across multiple areas, such as the Plaza Flowerbeds, Children's Garden, Ouida Bristow's flowerbed, Schrader/Scoggins flowerbed, and Buzz and Carole Fullen's flowerbed.

Lake Forest Park now boasts an enhanced beauty thanks to the freshly applied mulch. We would like to extend our appreciation to Harriet Craig, The City of Henderson, TX - Government, The Hope Center volunteers, Carole Fullen, Monica L. Sanders, Mary Lou Smith, Peggy Scoggins, and Linda Craig for their tireless efforts during Work Day Wednesday. The City of Henderson, TX - Government The Hope Center Carole Fullen Monica L. Sanders

An awesome day at Yates Park yesterday as special education students from Wylie Elementary School traded the classroom for outdoor learning, fresh air, and time together in the park.

Henderson Independent School District continues to create opportunities like this for every child to learn, grow, and build confidence through experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you to the teachers, aides, therapists, and staff who support these students each day.

The Governor’s Community Achievement Award is a prestigious award given through a partnership with TxDOT and Keep Texas Beautiful. It is an honor that Keep Henderson Beautiful proudly earned for the third time in 2023, and it helped make this project a reality. It recognizes our community’s ongoing commitment to beautification and environmental stewardship.

We’re excited to see this project come to life and appreciate everyone who helped make it happen!
