KHB strives to promote public interest in the general improvement and cleanliness of Henderson. This will also protect song birds and other water fowl.

Early in February 2008, several members of the Rusk County Master Gardeners met with city officials and community leaders to discuss and to expand their beautification ideas for Henderson. At this meeting, the members voted to pursue the application to the State of Texas for the Keep Henderson Beautiful program. The following is Article II - Purpose of the Keep Henderson Beautiful By-Laws. The purpose of this organization is to be charitable and educational, promote public interest in the general improvement of the environment to initiate, plan, direct, and coordinate programs for litter control and solid waste management for the community on a sustainable basis. Also to implement and maintain the Keep Texas Beautiful goals and to study, investigate, and develop plans for improving the health, sanitation, safety, and cleanliness of the City of Henderson. This will be done by beautifying the streets, highways, alleys, river, and stream banks, lots, yards, and other similar places in the city and county. This will aid in the prevention of fires, diseases, and other casualties by the removal and elimination of trash and other debris from the streets, highways, alleys, lots, yards, flowers, plants, shrubbery, and other objects or ornamentation in the city and county. Keep Henderson Beautiful will also advise and recommend plans to other agencies of the city and county. Keep Henderson Beautiful has been recognized by receiving the Governor's Community Achievement Award three times since its inception and has completed several local projects with grant money received through the program, as well as through private donations and assistance from the City of Henderson. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.

KHB had a great monthly meeting this morning. We have a lot going on and if you would like to join us we work out at Lake Forest Park every Wednesday morning. Our monthly meetings are the first Monday of the month at 10 am at City Hall.

Now that’s a beautiful lawn! That lush, green carpet of grass makes this front yard look absolutely stunning. There’s just something special about a well-kept lawn and beautiful flowerbeds. Love the fall decorations too.

KHB was out early working out at Lake Forest Park this morning pulling weeds and trimming bushes. Work day Wednesday went great. Thanks to everyone who came out.

Have you seen who’s visiting Lake Forest Park? Monarch Butterflies are fluttering among the beautiful flowers and they are worth a visit.
Bring your family and friends out for a peaceful walk. Take a few minutes to watch them move from bloom to bloom.
Take a photo if you spot one and share it with us. We would love to see the park through your eyes.
Enjoy the beautiful flowers and please be kind to the butterflies.

This morning was productive mostly working in the children’s garden. We started our work day early because of the extreme heat.

Congratulations to this homeowner on Pine St. for receiving The Yard Of The Month Award for August and September! With this excessive heat it’s rare to see such a lush , beautiful yard with colorful flowers that pop and gorgeous trimmed decorative bushes.

KHB was out at Lake Forest Park early working on the Schrader- Scoggins garden.

Please join us this Wednesday morning July 29th out at the park if you would like to volunteer. We start early because of the heat.

Congratulations are in order for this beautiful property. They are the recipient of the Yard of the Month Award for July.

The homeowner's yard features 4 different colors of crape myrtles, beautiful petunias, and several rose bushes and trees. Located at the corner of Fordall and Harriet St, we invite you to drive by and witness its beauty firsthand.

Great work is being done today at Lake Forest Park. The park is being prepared for the 4th of July festivities. The women involved are truly the hardest working in Henderson.

The Yates Park All-Access Committee continues evaluating proposals and raising funds for the park with one goal in mind: making sure it truly serves the needs of Henderson and all of Rusk County.

To help accomplish that, the committee utilizes the expertise of the two special education directors serving schools in Rusk County. Their insight helps ensure the park is designed with accessibility and inclusion at its core.

The numbers in the county speak for themselves. More than 1,300 students in Rusk County have disabilities. Those disabilities range from autism to behavioral, and physical challenges. An all-access park isn’t just a nice addition. It’s a real need for families across our community.
