The Hempstead Commerce & Civic Association (HCCA) is aware of ongoing social media discussions regarding the Memorial Day Parade.
The HCCA remains committed to conducting safe, organized, and respectful community events. As the organizer of the parade, the association is responsible for enforcing registration, liability, and safety requirements equally for all participants.
To clarify misinformation circulating online, the group in question was not denied participation in the parade. The organization had submitted an entry application; however, changes were later made to the original entry that did not comply with event procedures and liability requirements. The group ultimately chose not to participate under the approved registered entry.
Unfortunately, inaccurate statements regarding the event and HCCA volunteers have continued to circulate online. While the HCCA respects everyone’s right to their opinions, we will not engage in personal attacks or public disputes.
For many years, the HCCA has proudly served the Hempstead community through scholarships, festivals, community projects, veteran recognition events, and family activities, giving back more than $55,000 to the community in the past year alone.
Our focus remains on serving the community in a positive and professional manner, and we appreciate the continued support of our volunteers, sponsors, veterans, churches, businesses, first responders, and citizens.
The HCCA also asks the community to remember that many longtime volunteers and supporters serving at these events, including family members of veterans honored by the parade, deserve respect and civility.
