On International Overdose Awareness Day, we wanted to take a minute to teach some life-saving information and provide a resource on where to get Narcan. To recap, the first step in responding to an overdose is to recognize it. Having pale skin, blue or black lips or nails, trouble breathing, or loss of consciousness are all signs someone is experiencing an overdose. Once you recognize the signs, you or a bystander should call 911 immediately. After calling 911, lay the person on their back with their head tilted backwards. Place the nozzle into the person's nostril and firmly press the plunger to administer the medication. If the person is still unresponsive after the first dose of Narcan, administer a second dose. Do not leave the scene until paramedics have arrived. If you need Narcan in your first aid kit, stop by a Circle Park location near you where we distribute Narcan for free and with no questions asked!
