The Litter Legion

Building community one piece of litter at a time

10/04/2026

A big crew of Litter Legion volunteers spread out across the neighborhood for our Big Fall Cleanup, with lots of new faces joining familiar ones. We were especially happy to see so many families come along — and discover that when you give a kid a litter picker, suddenly picking up trash becomes a competitive sport.

After a morning spent showing our neighborhood some love, we gathered in Hell’s Kitchen Park to celebrate with pizza and sweets from Sullivan St Bakery, plus hot dogs, grilled cheese and french fries from Cubby’s.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped make Hell’s Kitchen shine — and to NYC Service, whose grant made the event possible.

Cleanup Stats:
💪 45+ volunteers
📍 14 blocks covered
🗑️ 242 lbs of litter

Among the finds:
🚬 761 cigarette butts picked up by ONE volunteer
🐦 1 dead pigeon
🟡 1 p*e bottle

Want to help keep your corner of Hell’s Kitchen clean? Become a Litter Legion Block Ambassador and claim a block (or blocks!) to tackle on your own schedule.

We’ll give you a free Litter Legion Picker Pack with everything you need, add your claimed block to our neighborhood map and invite you to our dedicated Ambassador WhatsApp group.

Clean when you can, then send us a quick update so we can track the difference our Ambassadors are making across Hell’s Kitchen.
