As of January 1, 2025, the Alternative Energy Resources Organization (AERO) officially changed it’s name to Abundant Montana.

Born from the energy crisis of the 1970s, AERO spent 50 years empowering Montanans to build a resilient future. We've championed sustainable energy, thriving farms, and vibrant food systems – all while protecting our beautiful state.

"Today, a new crisis looms for Montana’s future: insecure access to healthy food. That's why we're launching the 33x33 for Montana initiative – a bold goal to get 33% Montana-grown food on all Montana plates by 2033. To reflect this critical mission, we're proudly rebranding as Abundant Montana." - Robin Kelson, Executive Director.

As a result of these changes, AERO’s Facebook and Instagram pages will no longer be posted on.

As we near the end of the year, we’re so grateful for everything our fantastic team has accomplished!

Check out these ways we’ve been in community around the state over the last year.

- We stocked 25,000+ Local Food Guides in 226 locations around Montana
- Our team has driven 21,100 miles across Montana towards the goal of getting more Montana food on all Montana plates.
- We are a statewide nonprofit and have team members who live in 8 different cities around the state.
- Local Food Coordinators, our “boots on the ground” representation in communities, have attended over 50 food and ag events.

It’s official! We’re transitioning our brand.

As we shared at Expo Pivot, come January 2025, AERO will be doing business as ABUNDANT MONTANA.

Why?

In this era of climate chaos and pandemics, relying on a fragile and easily-broken global, industrialized supply chain to feed ourselves is unsustainable. Without a resilient and reliable food system, Montana’s future is at risk. So that’s what we’re focused on moving forward.

Our Abundant Montana programming has shown us that the name “Abundant Montana” is galvanizing - it is clear, bold, and it catalyzes action. We need everyone in Montana to lean in to achieve our goal. We are clear the brand transition will help make that happen.

We’re also clear that, while the public name is changing, the heart and soul of the organization remains intact.

Important update! Grow Montana has just released the results of their recent survey with this year's Montana Legislative Candidates. With the election now weeks away, this is important information to know.

Both House and Senate candidates were invited to complete an emailed survey to share their views on important food and agriculture issues. The survey was also meant as an opportunity to introduce the coalition to candidates and share a few resources to learn more about the work the coalition cares about, such as soil health, food and nutrition access, and mid-scale processing.

Candidates were informed that survey results would be shared with coalition members and the public. Candidates were also informed their responses would be used solely for educational and informative purposes and will not be used as a scorecard or endorsement of individual candidates.

If you are unsure who your legislative candidate is, you can find out by entering your voting address in the search feature at the Montana Free Press’s Election Guide (https://apps.montanafreepress.org/election-guide-2024/). If you would like assistance reaching out to your candidates, email the Grow MT using their Contact Form ( https://growmt.org/contact-us/) .

This is the second legislative candidate survey Grow Montana has completed in the last five years. The first survey was conducted in 2020 and received just over 50 responses from candidates. This year's survey received over 70 responses, a sign that potential legislators are gaining interest in learning more about local food system policy work!

Grow Montana is thrilled by the number of candidates who requested more information about issues and expressed interest in working with the coalition, is grateful for the time all candidates took to share their opinions, and looks forward to the opportunity to continue our work building strong partnerships across the political aisle.
