How old were you when you started working?

For many Montanans, the answer is younger than you might think.
When we asked Montanans about their first jobs, we heard stories of picking potatoes, digging ditches, stacking hay, serving snow cones, washing dishes, and working for small town businesses. Some started earning money as young as 8 years old. Many began paying into Social Security as teenagers and continued contributing throughout their working lives.

Their stories remind us of an important truth: Social Security isn't a handout. It's earned through a lifetime of work and contributions.

As Social Security celebrates its 91st anniversary, read these inspiring Montana stories and learn why protecting Social Security should matter to every voter.
