We are honored to officially announce, Volunteer & Club Organizer - Fred Bailey from Helena, Montana is an Inductee to the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame™ as part of the new Class of 2026.
Fred Bailey started snowmobiling at a young age with his grandpa in Avon, Montana. He and his wife Julie have been snowmobiling for over 30 years. Fred has been an advocate of the sport at least that long. He loved the sport and had no idea at the time his passion would lead to a lifetime of commitment to organized snowmobiling on a local, state and national level. As a young adult, it wasn’t long until he became an officer of his local club, the Helena Snow Drifters (HSD). Fred was instrumental in acquiring the property where the HSD groomer shed is located. He also helped secure the truck and trailer to transport the groomer. Fred helped achieve and maintain the club’s nonprofit status. He was always there for every work party, trail maintenance day, even building a bridge and relocating the groomer shed. He served as district representative, four years as Vice-President and four years as President of the Montana Snowmobile Association (MSA). Fred has attended many DC Fly-ins, representing the MSA. He understands this event is very important as it facilitates opportunities to speak with senators and representatives. He has been trails coordinator for many years working with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Fred has formed a lot of partnerships over the years and is well respected by all recreationalists who know him. These contacts proved to be great resources when working on a winter travel plan or new legislation. He is a state and nationally certified snowmobile safety instructor and also an instructor with the ATV Safety Institute. Fred has spent many hours at the Montana Legislature testifying on bills to protect snowmobilers’ interests in funding, trail access and snowmobile safety. Recreation, safety, education, trails, economics, legislative, access and land use issues are among his top priorities. He has the ability to relate with the youth and make certain they feel included. What sets Fred apart is his lifelong commitment and the consistency of his service. He has never sought recognition, never stepped away from responsibility, and never hesitated to dedicate his time when the snowmobiling community needed him. Individuals with his level of expertise and passion and willingness to give so much of themselves for the benefit of others are rare. Fred’s dedication and contributions to organized snowmobiling earn him his place as an inductee into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame™, Class of 2026.
