The ABWA Big Sky Chapter is excited to announce Megan Abelin as the recipient of our $1,000 Impact Scholarship!

Megan is a freshman at Montana State University, studying Environmental Design Foundations with plans to continue on to earn her Master’s in Architecture through MSU’s College of Arts and Architecture.

Megan’s passion for design began at a young age and she has always been drawn to creating spaces that bring people together. Today, she hopes to combine her creativity, artistic abilities, and strong analytical skills to design beautiful, functional spaces that positively impact Montana communities.

Megan graduated from Capital High School as Valedictorian, ranking #1 in her class of 320 students, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout all four years. She was also recognized as a Helena Education Foundation Distinguished Achiever and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Her artistic accomplishments are equally impressive. Megan’s work has been featured numerous times in the Helena Education Foundation’s Pen & Ink Magazine and at the Holter Museum of Art. In 2026, she designed the cover of Pen & Ink Magazine and received the Going to the Sun Award for her acrylic painting, The Shadow’s Teeth.

Megan is also an accomplished cellist who has participated in orchestra for seven years, served as Orchestra Club President for three years, and performed with the Butte Symphony. She now shares her love of music by providing cello lessons to younger musicians and encouraging them to find joy and confidence through music.

Her commitment to her community can also be seen through her work at ExplorationWorks, where she first volunteered and later became a staff member. Her work with children—including providing individualized support to children with special needs—has strengthened her passion for creating welcoming and inclusive environments.

Megan’s combination of academic excellence, creativity, leadership, service, and commitment to her community exemplifies the qualities our Impact Scholarship was created to recognize.

The ABWA Big Sky Chapter is thrilled to announce Kathleen Cook as the recipient of our $2,000 Impact Scholarship!

Kathleen is a sophomore at Montana State University, where she is pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering and has maintained an impressive 4.0 GPA. Her long-term goal is to pursue a career in computational neuroscience, combining her interests in computer engineering, neuroscience, psychology, and healthcare.

Kathleen’s passion for this field comes from a desire to better understand the neurological roots of addiction and mental illness and to help develop more effective and accessible approaches to mental health treatment and rehabilitation.

Kathleen’s accomplishments are remarkable. She was Valedictorian of Capital High School, is a member of the Montana State University Honors College, and has earned President’s List honors. Her many achievements also include recognition through Business Professionals of America, the National Center for Women in Information Technology, FIRST Tech Challenge, National Honor Society, Academic All-State, and numerous other academic and leadership honors.

Beyond the classroom, Kathleen is actively involved in the Society of Women Engineers, Women in Engineering, NanoCats, and CatCatholic. She has volunteered extensively with youth robotics programs, served in numerous leadership positions, mentored other students, and continues to balance her education with multiple jobs and volunteer commitments.

We are incredibly proud to support a young woman who demonstrates such a strong commitment to education, leadership, service, and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Today, September 22, we are proud to celebrate American Business Women’s Day and the incredible women who make a difference in businesses and communities across Montana!

We are especially excited to share this official proclamation from Governor Greg Gianforte, recognizing September 22, 2026, as American Business Women’s Day in Montana.

As members of the ABWA Big Sky Chapter, we are proud to be part of an organization that has been empowering working women through leadership, education, networking, and scholarship opportunities since 1949.

Here’s to the women who lead, inspire, support one another, and continue opening doors for the next generation of businesswomen!
