Thinking of our Mojo friends and their families.

In Memory of Mojo 69 flight, crew and pax. Godspeed friends ...

"High Flight"
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, β€” and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of β€” wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew β€”
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

VIDEO: Hard to believe it has been almost ten years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. Here is a video put together by our buddy Brandon, who was a UH-60 Crew Chief with B Troop, 1-158th Aviation Regiment (21st CAV BDE) out of Fort Hood, TX.

As Katrina was attaining Category 5 status on the morning of August 28, the "B Troop Outlaws" were on the last week of a month long TDY in the vicinity of Crawford, TX. Considering their various missions, their day/week/month was about to get a lot longer. The Outlaws finished up POTUS ops and then went home to unpack/re-pack their bags for Louisiana. The Outlaws spent the next six weeks all over the Gulf Coast, flying General Russel Honore and flying other missions as tasked, and then staying on for Hurricane Rita operations as well.

The Outlaws were deployed in support of Katrina/Rita longer than any other active duty unit. During this time, the Outlaws stayed in the library of a Catholic Rectory in Baton Rouge (Thanks CWO Matt Benham, LANG!); camped on the sod at Hammond; reunited at the Delta Terminal at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans; hunkered down at Camp Shelby, Mississippi; and finished up their stay pretending to be National Guard and talking about "Facility" while "blending in" down in Gulfport, MS. They shot numerous approaches to the USS Iwo Jima; dropped hundreds of the massive "sandbags" at designated breaches around the city; and they spent untold hours at the Super Dome visiting with old friends while waiting on The Man.

Our thoughts remain with those who lost so much during those dark days! Vehere Durus ... Outlaws Ride Hard!

(Brandon did a great job with the video -- originally the video was perfectly tailored to a well known song, but the youtube dudes made him swap the song out.) :/

UPDATE (below) Our Outlaw family is sad to share the tough news that our friend and former 1SG, Gerald "Jerry" Plaster, passed away at his home in Texas on Friday, 11 June 2021.

Jerry, a 25-year U.S. Army veteran, spent many years bravely working in the special operations world. He devoted his life to serving his country, mentoring fellow soldiers, and loving his wife and family.

Jerry was a huge Oklahoma Sooners fan, and he had a quirky sense of humor that helped him lead with compassion and common sense. Jerry had zero quit in him, and he was a pro at solving problems, finding answers, and getting stuff done. He was fastidious and unstoppable when attending to his army duties. Jerry was a man on a mission, and he routinely shrugged off issues and distractions with an impish grin and a calm but determined manner.

Jerry Plaster served as a First-Sergeant with the B Troop Outlaws from March 2006 until the Troop's deactivation in early 2008. Jerry embraced the Outlaw's VIP and utility mission wholeheartedly, but he always reminded anyone who would listen that his true aviation love was The Boeing CH-47 Chinook Helicopter / MH-47.

Some of Jerry's additional positions include:

β€’ B Co 2-227th AVN "Black Cats" – 1st Air Cavalry Brigade "Air Cav" at Fort Hood, Texas

β€’ 1-52 General Support Aviation Battalion – Fort Wainwright Alaska

β€’ 3rd Staff and Faculty, US Army Aviation Logistics School (USAALS) – Fort Eustis, Virginia

β€’ HHC and B Co, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment

β€’ E Co 160th and B Co. 3/160th SOAR NIGHTSTALKERS at the Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield

Then, a little over five years ago, in 2016, while participating in training at JRTC and Fort Polk in Louisiana, Jerry suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on his brain stem. His chances of survival were low. However, with the help of his loving family and friends, Jerry courageously fought to hang on to the best of his ability.

Please keep Maggie and Jerry's family in your thoughts as they navigate this latest transition.

We will update this post on service or memorial information once the Plaster family has had a chance to make arrangements.

Rest easy, Jerry β€” We'll see you on the Green, Warrior.

OUTLAWS β€” RIDE HARD.

‼️ UPDATE on Jerry's service info: πŸ‘‡
β–ͺ️ Jerry’s wake will be Thursday evening from 1800-2000
β–ͺ️ Jerry’s funeral will be Friday morning at 1000
Both will be at Broecker Funeral Home
949 W Village Rd, Salado, TX 76571.

β–ͺ️ Unfortunately, the cemetery is unable to accommodate Jerry’s burial until Monday morning.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans!!

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day is observed each year on March 29 or March 30, depending on which state you’re celebrating.

The first Vietnam Veterans Day, declared by declared by President Richard Nixon in 1974, coincided with the one-year anniversary of the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Vietnam on March 29, 1973.

Today, we recognize Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day on March 30 as designated by a U.S. Senate resolution and a 2012 proclamation by President Barack Obama.
