Day 4 of posting Clara until she gets adopted.

Clara is still waiting patiently and she’s so beautiful while she does. 😭

Clara wants you all to know that even if you can’t adopt her, she could desperately use some goodies to get her through until her forever home finds her.

At the top of the wishlist is:

-Purina One Healthy Puppy food
-Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach food
-Training treats

These dogs gotta eat! Bella is transitioning to sensitive skin food, added salmon oil(we already have this!), and a Zyrtec. She’s a bit itchy but shows no signs of bacterial or fungal infection so we believe she has seasonal allergies. We have dealt with this before by switching to this protocol and it has worked wonders! Clara needs more puppy food and lots and lots of training treats. She will do ANYTHING for them!

So can you help a coupla girls out?

Meet Bella: A 12 year old menace who missed the memo about being old.

Bella is a 12-year-old spayed and vaccinated Puggle who has apparently decided that aging is merely a suggestion.

She is spry. She is squirrelly. She is ungovernable. And frankly, we’re not sure anyone has informed Bella that she is supposed to be slowing down. This snaggletoothed rocket runs LIKE THE WIND. Not “pretty fast for an older dog.” No. We mean WHERE DID THAT DOG GO?! fast. Bella is overall healthy, energetic, and has an operating system set to “Age: 2”. She LOVES having her butt scratched. Like, really, REALLY loves it. You are not allowed to stop under any circumstances. And if you do decide to stop, she will continue on her own by diving into the couch, smashing her face, and wiggling her way across it like some turtle flipped on its shell…

Oh, she’s 12?! She probably has a repertoire of amazing tricks!

Absolutely not.

Sit? Nope.
Stay? Nope.
Shake? Nope.
Roll over? Nope.
Respond to basic instructions? LOL.

No need to fret, she has her own catalog of tricks that she made up:

Being unbelievably adorable, getting her upper lip caught on her ridiculous underbite, making human’s laugh, running around like she has somewhere extremely important to be, and demanding quality butt scritches. Name someone who can do it better… she’ll wait.

Bella is spayed, vaccinated, crate trained, and house trained. She’s looking for an equally spry human to sit at the window and yell “Get off my lawn!” with. We are unsure how she is with kids and cats. She is iffy with dogs friends but doesn’t mind when they just live somewhere in the vicinity of her, obviously not sharing a throne here. Honestly, this girl has got a LOT of life left to live.

So do you need a weird, tooth forward, speed demon in your life? Maybe you just need a good laugh everyday? Perhaps a fur missile to dig up your weeds with pure acceleration and determination? Then Bella is the girl for you!

Bella falls under our “senior dogs” although she would definitely disagree. Her adoption fee is $250.

Long winded reason why you need Clara.

Day 3 of posting this AMAZING creature until someone adopts her.

Reasons why this training session shouldn’t have worked:

This dog does not know me besides being at my house a few hours.
There was a very vocal puggle distracting her.
I have never given her any commands before.
I am not her person.
I did not use a leash to help her at all.
She’s in a strange home.
That is a strange bed.
I am a stranger.

Reasons why this training session worked:

SHE IS AMAZING AND SMART AND LOVES TRAINING FOR TREATS.

You cannot convince me that you can’t train this dog to do anything you want under the sun. This is not how I normally train “place”.

A typical session would start after the dog has been with me for at least three days. I would use a leash to help guide them on what to do. The first session would only be her getting a treat anytime she stepped on the bed. She moved through this so fast with so many distractions (there was even a half full kong across the room I forgot to put up before starting) that I just went with my gut. See how I start saying place and she shouldn’t know it yet but I only say it once and wait for her to figure it out? I was able to do that because she is a genius. That’s not something that happens for multiple sessions. She shouldn’t know what place means that quickly. This dog is absolutely incredible.

Side note: I am NOT a certified dog trainer but I do have some tricks up my sleeve.

Our sweet Clara is ready for her people!

Clara is a 4.5 month old black lab puppy of sorts who is eager to learn.

Like a typical puppy, Clara is still learning to keep all four paws on the ground and how to walk like a lady on a leash.

BUT, she’s got quite a list of things down pat already.

Clara came to us with crate anxiety and too much energy for older dogs but we quickly found out that’s not the case. She was presumed to have been kept in a crate in a basement. However, she has learned the crate is AWESOME! When taken into rescue she would avoid the crate at all cost and when put into one she would scream her little head off. This is where the perfect foster stepped in. She was placed at a home with a large fenced in yard and a big wise old boy named Buck and she learned the ropes in a day. Buck likes to play but won’t tolerate any rudeness so he taught her that she can be wild on her own but play gently and equivalently with him. The large fenced in yard let her get her zoomies out to the point that she put herself in the crate for a nap. She now happily goes in the crate for naps, feedings, and to recharge for morning clowning! Clara is the perfect example of a puppy being a puppy who only ever needed a little guidance.

She has only been in foster for 6 days and her foster mom reports “Her manners have already improved dramatically. She sits patiently for her food, much less counter surfing, doing way better with the puppy biting and getting better on leash walking.” SIX DAYS. Six days of patience, training, and love.

So, Clara is now crate trained, potty trained, and super treat motivated! She loves kids, adults, and other dogs. She’s a bit much for cats but has proven she can and is willing to learn.

Clara needs a large fenced in yard OR someone familiar with lab antics and is willing to give her LOTS of exercise.

Now who is ready to add this long legged bundle of joy into their lives?! Clara’s adoption fee is $325.

Real quick before I go out of town for a few days!

Go to the adoptable dogs page and then click on “Apply to Adopt Grayson” to be taken to our general adoption application. I will try to process any applications I can while I am away but no promises until I get back. For now she’s safe and sound in a foster home. Oh… and she is SO STINKING CUTEEEEE!!!!

We had a lot of interest in the Border Collies we posted this week. I wanted to reach out to everyone who was interested here and give you some much needed info:

They are not yet in our care as we need homes for them before we take them in.

They are only available to foster or foster to adopt. They cannot be adopted until fully vetted including all shots and spay/neuter. This is due to NY Ag and Markets laws.

What does this mean?

If you are interested in adopting one of these puppies, you would be fostering to adopt which means you need to fill out an ADOPTION application. This puts you first to foster into an adoption.

If you are interested in fostering only and don’t want to keep the puppy but instead help out until we find its forever home, you would fill out a FOSTER application.

The adoption application is located on our website under “Adoptable Dogs”. Click the button under Grayson’s profile and it will open a general adoption application.

🚨SOS WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!🚨

Sweet, silly Clara is in need of a foster! We cannot bring her into rescue without a committed human who is interested in fostering or adopting her.

Clara is a 4 month old black lab who is 97% potty trained (impressive!), not yet crate trained, dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is not yet spayed but we will take care of that!

Clara needs a patient home with someone willing to crate train her and is currently home more often than not. She would do great in a home with other dogs as long as they are okay with her playful puppy tendencies. As a lab, she is in need of some structured training to turn her into a well rounded adult. She is coming into rescue because her last home had an old dog which Clara was too much energy for. She requires a fenced in yard or someone willing to walk her multiple times a day as she’s still full of puppy energy and zoomies. But she’s a wonderfully, friendly, goofy, playful lab pup as expected.
