We here at PAC have created a new challenge for everyone! We are calling it the Red, White, Blue and Kindness Too Challenge!!! It’s super simple- if you are out and about this holiday week/weekend grabbing fireworks, party supplies, etc, grab a bag of food, treats, or pet supplies and donate them to a local shelter or rescue. The busiest day of the year for all shelters and rescues is July 5th when scared animals run away from home. Shelters will be overwhelmed and we know they will appreciate any/all help they can get!! Tag us in your post if you participate and use this hashtag. Be safe and keep those furry friends inside!!

Thinking about taking the dog for a walk? You may want to wait.

With air temperatures around 90, asphalt can heat up to 135-degrees and concrete to 115-degrees. That can burn paw pads in just minutes.

If you're taking the dog out today:
-Walk early this morning or after sunset.
-Stay on grass and shaded paths when you can.
-Try the 7-second test. If you can't keep the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
-Bring plenty of water and watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling or slowing down.

A shorter walk today is a lot better than burned paws!

July 5th is consistently one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters and rescues.
Shelters will be overwhelmed with lost pets- and those are only the fortunate ones who are found safely.
When animals are frightened, they don’t think rationally. Even the most well-trained, friendly, or “they’ve never run away before” pets can panic. A fenced yard will NOT reliably contain a terrified animal, and an open door is all it takes for them to bolt.
Please don’t take that chance.
As we head into Fourth of July week, keep your pets indoors in a secure room. Close windows and curtains, turn on a TV or fan to help muffle the noise, and make sure they have a safe, comfortable place to hide if they need it.
Most importantly, make sure your pets are wearing current ID tags and that their microchip information is up to date.
They may pace. They may whine. They may bark, tremble, hide, or even have an accident in the house.
Those inconveniences are temporary.
A pet lost in fear may never find its way home.
Please help us keep pets safe and out of our shelters this holiday by taking a few simple precautions
