New Book Traces 10,000 Years of Hebron, New Hampshire History - Author to Appear at Hebron Library
Local historian Ronald W. Collins will read from, discuss, and sign copies of his new book on Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m.
HEBRON, N.H. -Sept. 8, 2026 — Ronald W. Collins, a local historian and author of numerous books on the history of the region and its key figures, announces the publication of The History of Hebron, New Hampshire: A Ten-Thousand-Year History, a sweeping new account of the town's past.
Unlike previous histories of Hebron, which were largely organized as separate sections devoted to single subjects, Collins' book unfolds as a chronological narrative. Topics that are usually treated in isolation are instead woven side by side, giving readers a sense of what life in Hebron actually felt like at a given moment in time and how seemingly separate events were interconnected. Subjects that call for their own focused treatment are gathered in the book's many appendices.
The book begins at the end of the Ice Age, tracing how glacial activity shaped Hebron's geology, and follows the town's story forward through the era of the Native Americans who lived on the land, the colonial period and settlement of Hebron, and on through the town's development up to and including the first half of 2026. Along the way, it covers the 200-year history of the Great Camps of Hebron, the Hebron Village Store, the town Church, and the Academy, along with short biographies of notable Hebronites such as Sergeant John Ordway and Governor Nathaniel Berry, and brief biographies of the town's Revolutionary War and Civil War soldiers.
The narrative, edited by Vin Broderick, is illustrated throughout with 18 maps and 225 photographs of the people and places that shaped the town.
"My goal was to place Hebron's history in its full, deep chronological context starting long before the town existed and to let the reader see how our geology, our earliest inhabitants, our settlers, and our institutions all connect, rather than reading about each in its own separate box," said Collins, who is also a longtime board member of the Hebron Historical Society.

Collins will appear at the Hebron Library on Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m., for a reading, discussion, and book signing. The event is free and open to the public; all are welcome to attend.

A Ten-Thousand-Year History of Hebron, NH by Hebron Historian, Ronald W. Collins, has been published. Edited by Vin Broderick, the history is written in a roughly chronological narrative style. This history is accompanied by 18 maps and 225 photographs of the people and places involved, whereas the previous histories tended to give a history made up of sections on a single subject, which are handled in this book by the many appendices.
The intent of this history is to document events in the deep chronological background context of the town. Starting with the end of the Ice Age and book traces the history of Hebron up to and including the first half of 2026.
