Hebron Historical Society publishes Tales By and About Howard Oedel

Howard Oedel (1921-2025) was for many years the master storyteller of Hebron, NH. Having gone to Harvard at the same time as John F. Kennedy and having served as a Naval officer during World War II was only the beginning of his fascinating life. He married just a one day after graduating Harvard and then went off to war a week later. Upon his return he finally had a chance to start a family, secure a Ph.D. from Boston University, become a co-founder of the New Hampshire Antiquities Society, become a noted Abraham Lincoln scholar and in his spare time co-found the Hebron Historical Society.
The meeting room was always crowded whenever he was the guest speaker at a Historical Society event. Even brilliant storyteller, Rebecca Rule, picked up stories from Howard for her shows and talks.
Young folk remember him as the blueberry man who came to every Hebron Fair with pints and pints of his blueberries, handpicked by him from his 75-year-old blueberry patch, and handed out free to anyone who spent time with him in the Historical Society booth.
He was a unique man who will be sorely missed by those of us who knew him. This 113 page book, in hi-Res color, collects several of his talks, and interviews of him by other writers. Also included are color photos of Howard during his lifetime.
The book is available on Amazon and from the Hebron Historical Society, PO Box 89, Hebron NH 03241. The price is $34.95 plus $3.00 shipping.
