Fair trials don’t happen by accident.

You build them.
Or you fight for them.

Sometimes that means:
✔️ Exposing bias in jury selection
✔️ Breaking testimony on cross
✔️ And saying the quiet part out loud:
the judge shouldn’t be on your case

Rob Eggert teaches all three.

KENTUCKY SUPREME COURT DEFENDS JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE
Yesterday, the Kentucky Supreme Court issued a landmark opinion protecting the integrity of our courts and the constitutional balance of power. In a decisive ruling, the Court granted a supervisory writ and ordered the dismissal of impeachment proceedings against Judge Julie Muth Goodman, holding that the Legislature overstepped its authority.

The opinion reaffirms a fundamental principle that Judges must be free to follow the law—not political pressure.

KACDL is proud to have supported this effort as amicus and remains committed to defending due process, judicial independence, and the rule of law in Kentucky.

KACDL Files Amicus Brief in Kentucky Supreme Court Case Involving Judicial Independence

The Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (KACDL) has filed an amicus curiae brief in the Julie Muth Goodman, Judge v. Hon. Jason Nemes, et al., currently pending before the Supreme Court of Kentucky.

KACDL’s brief addresses significant constitutional questions concerning the separation of powers, due process protections, and the proper role of the judiciary within the Commonwealth. The organization’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to the fair administration of justice and the preservation of constitutional safeguards.

Our interest in this case is grounded in the long-term impact that these legal questions may have on the rights of individuals and the balance of authority among the branches of government. The Court’s consideration of these issues will have consequences beyond the parties directly involved.

The amicus brief provides legal analysis to assist the Court in evaluating whether the constitutional framework governing judicial discipline and removal is consistent with the actions at issue in this case. KACDL does not represent any party but offers its perspective as a statewide nonprofit organization committed to supporting the rule of law and ensuring that constitutional protections are upheld in all proceedings.
