July 4, 1776
Founding father John Adams famously thought that July 2, 1776, would be the day that Americans recognized as the birthday of the nation. After all, that was the date when the Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain. But it would be July 4, when the Congress approved the language of the Declaration of Independence, that would become enshrined as Independence Day.
