Once a year, the whole neighborhood came outside. 🕯️

The statue came out of the church.
The band started playing.
And every folding chair on the block was already set up at the curb before noon.

You pinned your dollar to the ribbon.
Your grandmother kissed her rosary.
The men carrying the platform didn't say a word.
They didn't have to.

This wasn't a parade.
It was a promise.
A whole community saying: we remember where we came from,
we remember who we asked for help,
and we're doing this again next year.
