Today, the South Eastern Region celebrates the birthday of Soror Vanessa Rogers Long, the 20th South Eastern Regional Director. Initiated through Beta Tau Chapter, she led the region from 1994 to 1998 with a vision that left a lasting imprint on our programs and our people.

Her administration established the South Eastern Regional Summer Partners in Mathematics and Science (PIMS) Camp at Piney Woods Country Life School, opening doors for young scholars across the region. She also created the Vanessa Rogers Long Humanitarian Award, an honor that continues to recognize service and compassion among our sisters. Under her leadership, the region expanded its footprint by chartering six graduate chapters.

Please join us in wishing Soror Long a very happy birthday and in honoring the legacy she built.

Happy birthday to a leader whose work continues to shape our region today. 🩷💚✨

Today, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Alpha Delta Epsilon Omega Chapter successfully hosted Sisters Supporting Sisters: A Collective for Connection and Mental Wellness.

The event provided a safe and supportive space for women to engage in honest conversations about stress, mental wellness, self-care, and the importance of community. Through meaningful discussion, reflection, fellowship, and wellness activities, participants were reminded that they are not alone and that healing is often strengthened through connection.

A special thank you to Schquita Murray- Jones for joining us and sharing valuable information about healthy coping strategies, mental wellness resources, and avenues for support. Your insight, encouragement, and expertise helped equip attendees with practical tools to prioritize their emotional and mental well-being.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to every participant who attended, shared their experiences, and leaned into the spirit of sisterhood. Your willingness to be vulnerable, encourage one another, and engage in meaningful dialogue made this event impactful and inspiring.

As we observed Mental Health Awareness Month, we were reminded that caring for our mental health is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Together, we explored ways to manage stress, create healthier habits, establish supportive networks, and embrace the healing power of community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. May we continue to support one another, extend grace, and create spaces where women feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered.

Today, the streets of Jackson once again became sacred ground for democracy, dignity, and the enduring fight for justice. Thousands gathered for the NAACP’s “Mississippi Fights Back” rally and march, standing in direct response to renewed threats against voting rights and Black political representation.

Mississippi has always occupied a powerful place in the story of American civil rights. From Medgar Evers to the March Against Fear that ended in Jackson in 1966, this city has long served as both a battleground and a beacon for those unwilling to accept silence in the face of injustice.

What makes movements matter is not only the speeches delivered from podiums, but the ordinary people who decide to show up. Today, Alpha Delta Epsilon Omega member Ena Gustavis did exactly that. Her presence was a reminder that advocacy is not reserved for history books or national leaders. It belongs to citizens who understand that progress survives only when communities remain engaged, informed, and visible.

In an era where many are tempted toward apathy, today’s march asked a difficult but necessary question: What happens to democracy when people stop participating in it? The answer has always been written throughout Mississippi’s history.

The work continues. The march continues. And the responsibility belongs to all of us. ✊🏾🖤🩷💚
