We know you've been watching the progress! As the South John R Renewal project continues it's progress towards 8 mile, the Hazel Park Arts Council is looking forward to the celebration of this cornerstone project that has been in the works for over half a decade! We're proud to include local and international artists in the current art installations and excited to see what other art "🌻 SPRINGS🌷" up here in the future!

Join us Thursday November 12th, 2026 for the official Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening of the Hazel Park Jan Parisi Art Garden.

Remembering Fritz Koenig, the Sculptor Who Created the World Trade Center's Iconic Sphere | National September 11 Memorial & Museum https://share.google/euxmD6iFJGijXaYRn

The sculpture was heavily damaged by falling debris when the Twin Towers collapsed on September 11, 2001. It was recovered from the wreckage as the only major work of art to remain largely intact.

Director Percy Adlon chronicled Koenig's emotional return to Ground Zero to see the damaged art in the documentary Koenig's Sphere.

The damaged sphere was installed temporarily in Battery Park in 2002 as a makeshift memorial to the victims. The Port Authority moved the sculpture to its permanent home in Liberty Park in 2017, where it overlooks the 9/11 Memorial and its original plaza location.
