Indigenous Peoples Day!

Sometimes referred to as First Peoples Day or Native American Day, this day is to recognize the history of Indigenous American people and to celebrate Native American culture.

Of special note in 2026 is the fact that “at least 355 Native American and Indigenous candidates ran or are running in local, state and federal primary elections this year.” ( 10/3/26)

And that good news is also cause for celebration!

In last night’s city council meeting, a resolution was passed placing a 2-year moratorium on any data center development in the City of Jenkins, as well as stipulations for any future considerations.

In September, the Environmental Protection Network (EPN) released a report titled The Hidden Health Costs of AI Data Centers. This report focuses on the health impacts of energy demand caused by the AI data center buildout, and how the EPA is failing to do its duty to protect people.

So join us on Wednesday, October 14 for a presentation and discussion with Marc Boom of EPN on how growing data center electricity demand can increase pollution from power plants and on-site generation. Marc will also speak about why some of the resulting health impacts can occur far from the data centers themselves, and the federal policy changes EPN is tracking as this buildout accelerates.

HAZARD, KY -- Join K4ED and community partners on 11/12 (Thursday) at the Perry County Public Library for our next data center community workshop to learn the facts, ask questions, and explore how we can participate in upcoming decisions that shape our entire community.

During this workshop, we'll discuss:

🗣️How residents can be a part of the local data center regulation process
