Each day, our members pour their passion, integrity, and intelligence into completing humanitarian projects that have a lasting impact. About Our Club
The Rotary Club of Hayward California was Chartered June 1, 1922 as the 482nd Rotary Club. Since its inception, the Hayward Rotary Club has been the Hayward Area's preeminent Service Club with many of our members having had and continuing to have
a key role in the growth and development of this area and who have streets named after them. There's even a Rotary Street near the site of the former Hunt's Cannery. The Hayward Rotary Club meets on Mondays at Noon at the Masonic Hall at 1670 B Street in downtown Hayward. There is plenty of free parking in the City of Hayward lots across the street or in the rear of the building. For more information about Hayward Rotary, please call our Club Secretary, Mona Diamantine, at (510) 632-0804. Community Service
Hayward Rotary's many community service projects include the Silva Pediatric & Dental Clinics, Newman Park, the Fields of Dreams project, Tech Center at the Hayward Adult Education School, the Rotary Centennial Children's Park, and the refurbishment of Rowell Ranch Rodeo box seats. Each Fall, Hayward Rotarians go to each 3rd Grade Classroom in the all the schools (public and private) of Hayward to bring Hardbound Dictionaries to each child for them to keep. In these classroom presentations, we teach the students how to use a Dictionary to look at the word "Service" and to talk to them about how they and Rotarians can be of service to others. To date, we have connected with over 14,000 students and given each of them their own dictionary to keep. Community Grants
To facilitate requests from Community Organizations, Hayward Rotary has established a procees called Community Service Grants which are available to qualified organizations by application to the Grants Committee. The Community Donation Program Guidelines and application will be posted each on our website in late Fall. To apply for a grant, you will need to download the application form. Grant awards are based on the total amount of funds available and voted upon by the Rotary Board of Directors. Hayward Rotary Foundation
In the mid 1980's, the idea arose to establish a club foundation to insulate the club's finances from the irregular cash flow of the income from its major fundraiser at the time, the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Food Concessions, and to be able to make more money available for local projects. The Hayward Rotary Club Foundation was incorporated in October 1990 as a 501 (c) (3) Charitable Organization Tax ID #94-3127062 and is managed by an indepdently elected Board of Directors and Officers. It reports at least annually to the members of the Hayward Rotary Cub at a specifically designated weekly Club Meeting. At this annual meeting, all attending active members of the Hayward Rotary Club are able to vote on the Directors with expiring terms. The newly seated Foundation Board then votes separately for its Officers. Past President John Hunter's goal to increase the endowment of the Foundation to $1,000,000 by 2005 was acheived and a Dinner Celebration was held in the Hayward City Hall Rotunda to celebrate this accomplishment. Today, many Rotarians, Individuals and Corporate Sponsors choose to donate tax-deductible funds directly to the Foundation either as unrestricted, restricted or specifically designated contributions. Annually, the Hayward Rotary Club Foundation makes 3% of the undesignated June 30th balance of the Fund available to the incoming Club President for use on their Club Board-Approved Project(s). This assures that there is a source of funds available for use regardless of the results of other fundraisers. These funds can be combined with other funds but must be spent by the President prior to the end of their term as Immediate Past President. The Hayward Rotary Foundation is proud of its accomplishments such as helping to fund Hayward Rotary Club Local Projects such as the Silva Pediatric and Dental Clinic, Newman Park, Centennial Children's Park, The Dictionary Project, Field of Dreams and many other local and international endeavors.
