Our Summer Picnic was pure joy!
From games and kickball to cookie decorating and backpack giveaways, it was an amazing day celebrating our East Bay youth and mentors.

Thanks to the generous support of Family Giving Tree, we were able to provide 60 backpacks filled with supplies to help youth start the school year strong.

We’re also deeply grateful to community partners like Kaiser Permanente and others who helped make this event possible through their support and to Faith Fellowship for sending wonderful volunteers!

This last week we wrapped up our very first Antelope Valley Backpack Drive, and our hearts are full!

A huge thank you to Trevino Law (.law) for coming out to help us pack backpacks in AV—together, we prepared 50 backpacks that are being distributed this last week across two of our sites:

🌟 Our mentoring program in Lancaster
🌟 Our school site in Palmdale

We’re also incredibly grateful to Waste Management of Antelope Valley for donating backpacks and more, and to every single community member who came together to ensure each youth received a backpack for the new school year. Your generosity made this possible.

We’re so excited to hand each backpack to a young person and help make sure they’re ready to start school feeling prepared and supported. Our youth know that community is what makes our program strong.

Our Summer Picnic this past Saturday, August 1, was a joy-filled celebration of the youth we serve—amazing food and treats, tons of games (ending in a big kickball match!), and a backpack for every youth who attended.

We’re deeply grateful to our incredible community partners:

Kaiser Permanente – our primary financial partner, whose support made the event possible for youth across the East Bay.
Target and Costco – for donating key supplies.
HARD (Hayward Area Recreation and Park District) – for donating our beautiful space at Kennedy Park.
MOD Pizza – for 20 fresh pizzas.
Erik’s DeliCafé – for two generous sandwich trays.
Angela’s Ice Cream – for enough freshly made ice cream for every youth to build a sundae ().
Semifreddi’s Bakery – for a huge spread of fresh pastries.
Oakland Zoo – for donating tickets as a prize for one of our game winners.

Thank you all so much—this event truly could not have happened without you. 💙

What an incredible two weeks with and our amazing youth fellow Annabelle!

We had the privilege of hosting Annabelle through CORO's fellowship program, and she absolutely exceeded every expectation.

In just two weeks, she:

Supported our Backpack Drive initiative
Helped coordinate our upcoming Summer Picnic
Assisted with onboarding new mentors
Joined us for tabling at the Hayward Street Fair (she is pictured to the left of Be A Mentor's Porsha Jackson.)

Annabelle brought such passion, dedication, and fresh perspective to everything she touched. We accomplished so much together in such a short time!
