What an incredible day connecting with our community! ๐ŸŽ’โœจ

We were absolutely thrilled to participate in the 2026-2027 Annual Hayward Backpack Giveaway.

Joining forces with the Hayward Unified School District and our fantastic community organizations, to welcome students back for the new school year was a true honor.

This event was the perfect opportunity to introduce APICI to the community. We had so much fun meeting everyone! A huge thank you to every single person who stopped by our space, said hello, and shared a smile with us. We hope you love your free giveaways and, of course, enjoyed the candies!

Wishing all the students, parents, and teachers a fantastic, successful school year ahead. We are so proud to be part of this community! See you all on our first APICI gathering of the year on September 2 at the HUB Multi-Purpose Room, 24823 Soto Road, Hayward from 5pm-6:30pm!

Educators play an important role in preparing students to become informed and engaged participants in our democracy. Early exposure to civic education helps build lifelong habits of participation, and schools are critical to that effort. The CDE invites districts and school sites to participate in these statewide civic engagement opportunities during the 2026โ€“27 school year.

High School Voter Education Weeks will take place Monday, September 14, through Friday, September 25, 2026. This initiative is designed to raise civic awareness among high school students and encourage eligible students ages 16 and 17 to preregister to vote so their registration becomes active when they turn 18. Since California launched its preregistration program in 2016, more than 1.5 million students have preregistered to vote, resulting in more than 1.2 million eligible voters!

What an honor it is for APICI and HUSD to be recognized as two of the community organizations that are leading the charge in advancing AANHPI communities and students in Hayward, as acknowledged in the AANHPI Heritage Month Proclamation by Mayor Mark Salinas and the City Council on May 19th, in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

We are proud to be in the company of other exemplary organizations and institutions who were recognized, including Winton Middle School, Winton Middle School Asian Pacific Islander Club (APIC), and the Hayward Public Library.

APICI's Lead Coordinator, Lani Llamido, and HUSD's School Board President, Peter Bufete, represented the respective organizations with pride. Meanwhile, Winton Middle School's Principal, Lisa Tess, and the APIC's club supervisor, Nieleen Tamondong, represented their school and club. Also present were Hayward Public Library Executive Director Jayanti Addleman, APICI member Solomon Llamido of UC Berkeley and Miss Wok, Music Director of Winton Middle School.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the City of Hayward for celebrating the profound impact of AANHPI communities in the city. APICI will continue to provide a platform for our AANHPI students and families.
