Hole in the Sky Hole in the Sky improving health of communities we serve through drug prevention programs of education, employment, volunteerism and community service

Bugo Ganay Giizhig (Hole in the Sky), with the tagline “A Brighter Path Awaits,” is pleased to announce their official creation as a non-profit organization with the goal of improving the health of the communities we serve through highly-publicized drug and gang prevention programs which include support for education, employment and community service, as well as, providing alternatives to drug and

gang activity by creating athletic and friendly competitions and building and renovating recreational facilities. The Objective
We see a need for more programs aimed at providing the people of our community more opportunities. The lack of opportunities provides an easy outlet for community members to turn to drug and gang activity. We see a need for alternative rehabilitation for our community members through community service programs. Too often we see young people sent to jail for minor offenses when alternatives may prevent repeat offenders. We see a need for our community members to have more access to better employment opportunities. We see a need for better recreational and athletic opportunities. The lack of access to recreation and athletics in our community leads young people to choose the wrong path, drugs and gangs. The Opportunity
We aim to provide community members more access to furthering their education through scholarships, programs to aid them in their secondary education research and programs for youth to help encourage them to graduate high school. We aim to work with the local court system to provide community service alternatives to incarceration through building and renovating recreational facilities throughout our community and maintenance of those facilities. We aim to be a full-referral service for community members seeking employment by providing a thorough listing of all agencies and outlets in the area, as well as providing regular educational sessions on how to find employment or seek advancements in their educational fields. We aim to renovate existing recreational facilities, such as skate parks, ballfields and playgrounds and to build new ones where a need exists. We also aim to maintain those facilities through our community service program. We aim to create an intense individual-focused program that centers on the specific needs and concerns of each participant to greatly increase their chances for success in turning their lives around. The program will focus on counseling, support groups, volunteerism, community service, improving educational opportunities, employment, recreation and sporting events and relationship building with community leaders and their own families. The Solution
We will award several scholarships annually to community members who have repeatedly exhibited their willingness to better themselves through education and to any individual who has completed our year-long program. We will work tirelessly with the youth in our community through recreation and sports events, volunteerism for events we sponsor, assistance in their educational endeavors, counseling and referral services, all with the purpose of encouraging them to continue their educations through graduation and beyond. We’ll be working with court systems, tribes and corporations for our individual-focused program as an alternative to incarceration for lesser offenses with the youth of our community. We will establish a hotline that will serve as a full referral service to the community for not only employment opportunities, but for any persons in need, such as community members looking for an exit strategy to drugs and gangs, or those contemplating su***de. Our number, 1-844-TELLBUG, will serve many purposes. We will be operating several crowdfunding campaigns to renovate existing recreational facilities, as well as, build new ones where the need exists. Once built and renovated, we will maintain the facilities for years to come.
