Stable housing and job support transformed Zachary’s life. Between classes and working three jobs, Zachary was just trying to survive. Now, he’s focused on school, his career, and the future he’s building for himself. 💪 When we pair housing with opportunity, people thrive.

This story was told in collaboration with Code Tenderloin in San Francisco.

One year ago, this group of neighbors partnered with Bay Area Community Land Trust to buy their own building — and keep their homes affordable for generations to come. 🎉

A year later, they’re still home and leading the way for housing justice across the Bay. 💛

Crystal and Angelo were each facing unsafe housing, rising rents, and nowhere left to turn. But their stories didn’t end there — because Oakland is invested in stopping homelessness before it happens. And we can do even more of that here in the Bay. 💛💪

This story was told in collaboration with the City of Oakland’s Department of Housing & Community Development.

Erik and his mom were evicted amid his mother’s battle with cancer. After she passed, Erik spent months couch-surfing, grieving, and trying to survive — until he got news that changed everything. He qualified for subsidized housing that he could afford in the City of Mountain View. Now, he’s working in his community, advocating for more housing so others don't have to experience what he went through.

This story was told in collaboration with Silicon Valley at Home in Santa Clara County. Learn more at BeginsWithHome.org.

Closing out with four words: Love Begins with Home. 🩷🏘

May, June, July, and beyond we're going to keep working to make the Bay Area a place where everyone has a safe place to call home — where all our neighbors can stay, live, and thrive.

Together we hold the power to demand something different, something better — for all of us.

“The fight is never about grapes or lettuce. It is always about people.” — Cesar Chavez

This Cesar Chavez Day we’re highlighting the stories of those who work on farms here in the Bay Area and are fighting to have a safe place to call home.

Too many farmworkers in the Bay are forced to rely on housing provided by their employers. That includes Maria’s family, who was pushed out of their home overnight, and has endured unsafe living conditions. Now, with Puente de la Costa Sur (PUENTE) Maria is advocating for housing solutions that give farmworkers the stability they deserve. The fight for safe, affordable homes is always about people.

✊ Our long-time communities deserve to keep their roots in the Bay. But when buildings are put up for sale, long-time residents often have no choice but to leave the places they have always called home.

🙌 Local organizations like & are supporting tenants to buy back their homes, and keep them affordable for generations to come.

💪 We can stop displacement before it happens. Double tap if you’re ready to see more homes preserved as affordable housing in the Bay! ❤️❤️
