Hayti 1916 - a City Ordinance was passed to outlaw hitching posts on Main Street. It had gotten to be a dangerous place with the automobile on the go.
J. Bikemo, city marshal, put hitching posts on 1st and 2nd streets

Did You Know:
The seal on the Hamlin County Courthouse floor is seven feet across and is constructed in many colors which simulates the Great Seal of South Dakota in minute detail. It is believed to be the largest seal constructed in South Dakota.

HOW did you and your family come to Hayti-Hamlin County?

MY STORY begins in Norway with the birth of Bjorn (Ben) Rund in 1854 to Truls and Ingeborg Gulsdatter Rund. In 1872, at the age 18, Bjorn with 4 of his siblings crossed the Atlantic and immigrated to America. In 1880 Bjorn married Hannah Stormo and homestead near Watertown, SD, in Hamlin County. Bjorn and Hannah had 4 children, among them a daughter Ella Rund. Ella married Edwin Eggen in 1883. Together, Ella and Edwin also homesteaded in Hamlin County and raised 4 children. One of their children was Edwin Kenwood Eggen. In 1946 he married Lois Norton and they raised 3 daughters: Jan, ME, and Kaye.
