Hello from Senator Moran’s Toxic Exposure Team,

First, on behalf of Senator Moran, we want to thank you all for your amazing advocacy and input over the past two years during the development of comprehensive toxic exposure legislation that will truly change the lives of many veterans who have bravely fought for our freedom. THANK YOU!! Second, as the media is buzzing after a failed vote in the Senate on the Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022, we wanted to share with you Senator Moran’s remarks on the Senate floor, which are copied below.

Background: Over the past two years, Senator Moran has worked tirelessly with Chairman Tester and veterans’ advocates in Kansas and Washington, D.C., on a bill to fundamentally reform and improve how toxic-exposed veterans receive health care and benefits from the VA. Because of the extreme impacts this legislation would have on VA, the legislation would also enhance VA’s resources by investing in claims processing, workforce, and health care facility leases. The bottom line is it’s time for Congress to fix a broken system cobbled together through decades of patchwork fixes. Our veterans put their lives on the line, and we must match that level of commitment by caring for their wounds when they return home. This is our chance to make certain current and future generations of toxic-exposed veterans can get the health care and disability compensation benefits they deserve without delay.

On June 16th, the Senate overwhelmingly passed the SFC Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act, by a vote of 84-14. When it was sent to the House, it encountered a “blue slip” issue because it contained a tax provision. The Constitution requires that all revenue and tax bills begin in the House. The bill returned to the Senate to fix this issue – to remove the tax provision – and after a failed vote yesterday, it is now pending another vote.

Bottom Line: Senator Moran said yesterday that he is working to find a solution. He does not doubt that we’ll get there. He is working with Republicans and Democrats to make certain that it happens sooner rather than later, so toxic-exposed veterans can finally access the health care and benefits they desperately need and deserve.

Again, thank you all and please feel free to distro this message and let us know of any questions.

-Lindsay

Beginning today, May 12, 2022, VISN 15 has implemented a new clinical resource for our Veterans.
VA Health Chat will allow Veterans to connect with the VA Health Connect Clinical Triage team, Whole Health and Women’s Health programs.
What is VA Health Chat? VA Health Chat is an app that enables Veterans to quickly connect and chat with the VA Health Connect Clinical Contact Center triage nurse in minutes. Veterans may use chat to ask health questions, receive medical advice, and schedule a VA appointment all through a secure chat on their computer or mobile device. These connections will be managed by the VA Health Connect Clinical Triage team.
https://mobile.va.gov/app/va-health-chat
https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/.../SitePages/Welcome.aspx
Whom can Veterans chat with on the app? They will initially chat with a Clinical Triage RN about their health concerns or questions. As the program expands, Veterans will have the availability to speak with pharmacy staff, pharmacy technician, provider, or scheduler within the VA Health Connect Clinical Contact Center. They will not be directly chatting with the PACT VA provider.
Must be enrolled in VA Healthcare.
