What a awesome day today was!! Shannon and I had the honor and pleasure to deliver a mobility chair to Michael Dutro of Lawerence, KS. He is a Veteran that is an amputee and needed a chair. He was a member of the 8th Infantry Division and had a Victory Scrapbook from WWII that his mother had cut out newspaper clipping of all the Soldiers who died from his hometown. It was very humbling to read through the clippings.

The mobility chair was donated by Cory Von Feldt of Victoria, KS to the Western Kansas DAV Chapter-18. We then in conjunction with the Department of Kansas DAV donated to this gentlemen.

This is what supporting our brothers and sisters in arms looks like.

Good morning Comrades, wanted to pass on some exciting news. Department of Kansas DAV has decided to put a Department Service Officer (DSO) in Hays!! This is great news for our community as it provides additional resource to file claims with VA, provide survivor benefits, disaster relief and gives a fulltime presence in our community. Hopefully this will help with membership.

Current plan is for the DSO to have an office in the CBOC (VA Clinic) to put them closer to those who need assistance. The DSO will be responsible for all Northwestern Kansas and will goto Garden City for two days, every other week to assist until a fulltime person can be hired. In Garden City their office will be in the American Legion.

DSO is expected to be up and working in the next 45 to 60 days. More information to follow as we learn more.
