Report and Roadmap for Women Entrepreneurs in Afghanistan Launched!

After months of work across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan and the launch event, we are honored to share our latest assessment report and roadmap on women entrepreneurs.

- 3,236 interviews.
- 33 provincial focus group discussions.
One clear message: Afghan women are still building, still adapting, still striving to grow. Yet the ecosystem around them is shrinking.

This report brings their voices forward—and offers a roadmap to support them more effectively through provincial strategies, market access, finance, and coordinated action. 👉 https://www.globalwomentrade.org/post/afghan-women-as-economic-actors-evidence-challenges-and-a-roadmap-for-enterprise-resilience-and-g

At Global Women’s Trade Caravan (GWTC), we work across the full spectrum, from policy research and advocacy to hands-on support that helps women-owned businesses leverage technology for sales and market access.
For us, economic agency is not just a concept discussed in policy rooms. It is built daily through training, mentorship, digital platforms, and direct market connections.
Despite extreme restrictions and growing challenges in Afghanistan, many women refuse to give up. They continue to run their businesses with determination, creativity, and courage.
Today, we are proud to introduce one of them: Sediqa Tamasuki, founder of World of Tamasuki Handmade Silk, who produces exquisite handmade silk products, preserves traditional craftwork, and generates income in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. Through digital access and e-commerce, she is trying to reach customers outside, proving that Afghan women remain powerful economic actors despite oppression.
We invite you to:
- Visit her shop - https://madebyafghanwomen.com/store/world-of-tamasoki-handmade-silk/
- Purchase her products
- Connect her with buyers
- Share her story
- Follow her pages - https://www.facebook.com/dnyay.abryshm.tmsky

Buying from Sediqa means investing in dignity, resilience, and economic freedom.

Despite extreme restrictions, systemic oppression, and daily uncertainty, women in Afghanistan refuse to disappear. They refuse to sit still. Against all odds, they find ways to create livelihoods from their homes—earning an honest, dignified income for themselves and others, and sustaining their families with extraordinary courage. The stories we have been sharing here are examples of how in harsh conditions, Afghan women continue to persevere, to adapt, and to keep their businesses alive with remarkable resilience.

The recent viral story of Nooria, who worked for three years under the name Noor Ahmad at a restaurant, is another extreme example of the courage girls can show in that country, and it’s a heartbreaking reality that girls often have to change their identities and clothing just to work and support their families. This is not new. It happened during the Taliban’s previous rule, and it is happening again today. And Nooria is almost certainly not alone. Across the country, countless others are quietly risking everything for the most basic right: to live and to provide.

If she had acceptance of who she is, she wouldn't have to change her name or clothing, and she wouldn't have to work in fear every day of being caught. But she finally got caught. Taliban arrested her, questioned her, and stripped her of even the fragile safety she had managed to build.

Her fearful face and her fearful voice break every human being's heart and question the silence - Why can the international community not take even the most basic steps, to hold the Taliban accountable, make them reverse the edicts that ban women and girls from their fundamental rights, and to help make Afghanistan a place where women and girls can live, work, and exist without fear?

Silence, in moments like this, is not neutral. It is your acceptance of what is happening on the other side.
