Another loss in north Idaho. Thank you, Corporal Michael Hutter for your many years of service. RIP.

We are heartbroken to share that Corporal Michael Hutter of the Sandpoint Police Department passed away suddenly on Thursday evening while being treated for health-related concerns at Kootenai Health.

Mike served this community with honor, compassion, and unwavering dedication, both as an officer for the Sandpoint Police Department and as the former Chief of Police in Ponderay.

He was more than a fellow officer; he was a friend, a mentor, and someone who cared deeply about the people he served. His kindness, steady presence, and commitment to doing what is right have made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his years of service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

We are all coping with this sudden loss and will share additional information regarding ways the community can assist Mike's family during this difficult time.

Condolences to the family and department. Thank you, Officer Law. RIP.

Dale “Caleb” Law was a valued member of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Family. Caleb served Kootenai County with distinction for 18 years. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2024. Caleb was very kind and ready to help coworkers, friends and strangers at anytime of the day or night. He loved to hunt and be in Idaho’s great outdoors. He is missed by his Sheriff’s Office family already. Our hearts are with his wife and children during this difficult time.
