Hawthorne Domestic Violence Response Team - DVRT

Hawthorne Domestic Violence Response Team - DVRT Hawthorne DVRT is a partnership between the Hawthorne Police Dpt., Passaic County Women’s Center, and volunteers, to support victims of domestic violence.

Hawthorne, New Jersey was the first town and police department in Passaic County to start a Domestic Violence Response Team Program. When it first began, Hawthorne had 32 volunteer members finish 40 hours of state-mandated training and begin meeting with victims of domestic violence. The Hawthorne Domestic Response Violence Team has grown over the years and has been active in the community through

several on-going programs. We currently have over 40 members and are available to meet with victims of domestic violence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Goals:
1. Assist victims of domestic violence in addressing their immediate safety needs.

2. Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to victims of domestic violence and their children.

3. Provide information and referrals.

4. Serve as a conduit between victims and domestic violence core services programs. Enable police officers to concentrate on traditional law enforcement responsibilities.

5. Educate the public and community on domestic violence and services we provide.
