The Friends of the Louis Bay 2nd Library and Community Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1981 to support the Public Library of Hawthorne, NJ. The mission of the organization is: to stimulate awareness of the Library and Community Center as an informational, educational, and cultural center for people of all ages in the community; to focus public attention on the library,

its facilities, services, resources, and activities; to encourage gifts, donations, endowments, and bequests to the library, as well as to aid and support the Library's development with financial contributions. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the library, except for July and August, when meetings are not held.

Many thanks to our Hawthorne community for another very successful Night of Chocolate fundraiser!

We could not host this very popular event without our volunteers, the many local businesses who generously donate to our event, our attendees, and the enormous efforts of our event chairs, Naomi Becker Collier and Krstofer, and Brian and Caleb. Thank you!

Due to the immense popularity of our annual fundraiser, Night of Chocolate, which is Friday evening, 5/15/26, we have made a very small number of additional tickets available at the adult circulation desk now. Don't miss out!

The library is open until 9 pm tonight and opens at 9 am tomorrow morning.

Thanks to our volunteers and a surprise giant auger enthusiast, our group was able to complete our planting project at the front of the Louis Bay 2nd Library & Community Center in record time!

This was the first time the Friends of Louis Bay 2nd Library participated in the Dig In! City Green Tree, Bulb, and Native Perennial Grants Program, funded by the Passaic County Board of County Freeholders and administered by City Green, Inc.

Some changes are coming to the outside of the front entrance of the library thanks to a generous grant of native perennial plants from the Dig In! Grant Program implemented by City Green, Inc. and funded by the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners.

The Friends were awarded a grant of 20 native perennials, including Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis), Beardtongue ‘Dark Towers’ (Penstemon digitalis), Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), and others.
