On April 1, 2013, the Township Supervisors amended the resolution establishing the LACKAWAXEN TOWNSHIP FIRE COMMISSION to open membership to any volunteer emergency service organization that wanted to join. As a result, while Greeley VFD is no longer a member, Lackawaxen EMS Squad 21 is now part of the Commission. The revised volunteer agency will still be addressing the issues of administration,
utilization of assets, fund raising, training and equipment in the Township not only for the other three Fire Departments, but for the EMS Squad as well. The Commission currently consists of one member from each of the three Fire Departments (Central, Forest and Lackawaxen) plus the EMS Squad; one delegate chosen by each of the four departments/squad who is not involved with Emergency services; one Township Supervisor; one delegate chosen by the Supervisors not involved in Emergency services and lastly; one delegate chosen by both the Fire Departments/EMS Squad and the Supervisors together, for a total of eleven representatives. Consistent with its Mission and Vision Statements, the Commission is working to promote a mutually beneficial relationship between itself and the respective membership for the betterment of all Township residents. This has already resulted in insurance savings for the Department/Squad members as well as efficiencies in their respective fund raising activities. However, there is more that can be done and future plans are in the works to further the Commission's accomplishments on behalf of its members. Your help in assisting it to achieve these goals and make Lackawaxen Township the safest it can possibly be is welcome.
