Hancock County Senior Services Aging, Health and Social Services Nutrition Program for the Elderly - includes home-delivered meals (meals on wheels) and congregate meals at senior centers.

The program helps improve the eating habits of participants, offers social networking opportunities and helps the participants remain healthy and independent by reducing hunger and food insecurity. Senior Citizen Centers - more than 200 senior centers are located throughout Kentucky with at least one located in each of Kentucky’s 120 counties. The centers provide information and assistance, wellne

ss opportunities, citizenship, volunteer opportunities and social activities and services related to people 60 and older. Homecare - provides in-home services for individuals 60 and older with functional disabilities who are at-risk for requiring long-term, institutional care. Services include personal care, home management, home health aide, home-delivered meals, home repair, help with household chores, respite, escort and case management and assessment. State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) - is a statewide program that provides free and objective counseling and assistance to people with questions or problems regarding Medicare and other related health insurances. SHIP operates through the state's 15 Area Agencies on Aging and Independent Living
Long-Term Care Ombudsman - established under the Older Americans Act, the Kentucky Long-Term Care Ombudsman program operates out of the 15 Area Development Districts through their Area Agencies on Aging and Independent Living. The LTCO works to improve the lives of people living in long-term care by enhancing their quality of life, improving their quality of care, protecting individual rights and promoting the dignity of each resident

We celebrated Older Americans Month with a visit to The Gathering Place in Henderson. The day's festivities included a scrumptious lunch at Golden Corral and an afternoon of entertainment, socializing, and dancing to outstanding music by Kelly Turley. Hancock County Fiscal Court/Senior Services will offer free transportation for all ages to this event on Tuesday, June 16th with Friday June 19th being an alternate day if needed. Children 17 and under will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, if child restraint seats are needed they will have to be provided. Everyone will need to sign a liability waiver before boarding the bus/van. We will leave HCSC at 8:30, pick up at Lewisport Subway at 8:45.
The appointment times for this event are on a first come first serve basis. Wait time is to be expected.

Hancock County Senior Services was honored to host neighboring counties within the GRADD area, including Union County Senior Services, Webster County Senior Center, Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County, Ohio County Senior Services, and Henderson County Senior Services, as part of our Older Americans Month celebration. We embarked on a journey "Through the Decades" by showcasing pictures of our participants from previous decades. The event featured a delicious meal, ice-cream floats, and lively music provided by DJ Hop. We extend our gratitude to all participating counties for making this day so special.
