LINK IN BIO 🔗 Check out Civil Beat today for an op-ed by AAUW of Hilo member Elizabeth Jubin Fujiwara on a recent County Council vote against funding food security.

“On June 5, in the face of federal cuts already impacting our communities, council member Jennifer Kagiwada (District 2) introduced a modest but vital amendment — $2 million for local food security programs. But the amendment was voted down…

To our County Council and Mayor Kimo Alameda: if hunger is not your preeminent task, what is? Our keiki cry out not for your speeches, but for your action. “He aliʻi ka ʻāina; he kauwā ke kanaka.” (The land is the chief, man is its servant.)

On January 9, 2025, the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Kentucky to vacate the updated Title IX rules released in April 2024. The decision makes it easier for schools to dismiss cases, harder to hold perpetrators of s*xual harassment and assault accountable, and more difficult for survivors to get the protections they need.

Join us on April 23 at 5:30PM to learn more about the "Challenges of Title IX in the Current Environment" in this panel discussion.
Register at tinyurl.com/aauwhi-april25 to receive your own zoom link. Shawna Pabingwit, Title IX Coordinator at UH Maui College; Anna Ezzy, State Director of Every Voice Coalition Hawaii; and Koalani Kauweloa, a student from UH Hilo, are our panelists.
