Molten bricks resulted from Haverstraw and the Hudson Valley's unique scove kilns. These kilns were constructed out of green, or sun-dried, bricks.

Per George V. Hutton, a descendant of the Kingston brickyard, common bricks "fluxed" at around 1600-1,825 Fahrenheit. An "additional 50 to 60 degrees F" resulted in the bricks melting together.
