🌱🍅 FROM GARDEN TO TABLE… AND STRAIGHT TO THE FRYING PAN! 😂🌶️
At HAAC’s Afterschool Enrichment Program (ASEP), we’re growing more than fruits and vegetables… we’re growing knowledge, responsibility, and a spirit of giving!
Our garden was started in the spring in small containers, some plants from seeds and some from the generous donation of seedlings from Beth Dunn of the Green Meadow school and farmer Megan Durney of the Threefold Community Farm. Our young gardeners learned how to grow pesticide free food, use companion plants and flowers to help nature do its job, respect the environment, and understand that one of the greatest rewards of a harvest is being able to BLESS SOMEONE ELSE! ❤️
Throughout the growing season, our garden provided fresh produce that was distributed FREE to members of our community! When we plant with purpose, everybody benefits! 🌻
We grew several varieties of tomatoes and peppers, along with cucumbers, ground cherries, pumpkins, eggplant, okra, strawberries, herbs and sunflowers.
A special thank you to our youth Jaicen and Jasper, who helped gather our final harvest of the season! 👏🏽👏🏽
Now, after all that hard work, you would think Jaicen might ask about next year’s garden, how much we harvested, or what we learned this season.
NOPE! 😂😂
His ONE and ONLY question was…
“WHEN ARE WE GOING TO FRY THE OKRA?!” 🤣🤣🤣
Well, at least we know somebody understands the farm-to-table concept… he just wants to skip straight to the TABLE! 🍽️😂
🌱 Small hands planted seeds.
🌻 Young minds gained knowledge.
❤️ Generous hearts fed a community.
And Jaicen? Well, he’s just waiting on that fried okra! 😂
That’s what we call GROWING WITH PURPOSE!
