We are excited to announce that tomorrow, May 7, at about noon, there will be a military flyover supporting local healthcare professionals:

2ND MARINE AIRCRAFT WING, MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point will honor healthcare professionals with a flyover across Eastern North Carolina, specifically over Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Carolina East Medical Center, and Carteret Health Center, around noon on May 7th.

This flyover showcases our continued support to those working on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19. We stand with those who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all those who need assistance, especially during a time like this.

Residents will be able to observe the tribute from the safety of their own neighborhoods and are asked to practice safe social distancing guidelines.

Semper Fidelis and thank you to those healthcare professionals continuing to put their lives at risk for the sake of the community.

Thank you,

To our American veterans.

The ones who fought our wars and conflicts.

The simple men and women who made extraordinary decisions to give up their way of life and serve in the United States armed forces.

The ones who found themselves in difficult situations that would test their strength, will, and commitment.

Their decision to join was the first of many selfless acts.

To our American veterans,

Thank you.

As we celebrate Veteran's Day, take into consideration what this day means, and the sacrifices some have given to this great country. If a veteran is willing to share their story, listen to them and respectfully offer your thanks.

FROM MCAS CHERRY POINT EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER
Hurricane Dorian Update: Currently TCC I, as of 10 a.m., Sept. 5

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point is currently in Tropical Cyclone Condition I. TCC I means a destructive weather system with sustained winds
of 50 knots (58 mph) or greater is forecast to affect the area within 12 hours.

The status is expected to change to TCC 1C by 4 p.m., today.
The TCC condition will dictate a change in gate access and restrict movement aboard the installation. MCAS Cherry Point's gates will remain under normal operation until about 10 p.m., Thursday Sept. 5, when TCC 1E is expected to
be set. Expect that access will be restricted to emergency services and personnel designated as essential. During the duration of TCC 1E conditions, movement around the base is restricted to limited Emergency Services personnel.

From the Commanding General MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune:

Hurricane Dorian is in the early stages of making its way up the East Coast, with installations in Eastern North Carolina directly in its path. We will see significant impacts from this storm from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon. The window is closing for you to make the necessary preparations in advance of its arrival. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some more information that will have a direct impact on our installation population.

I am authorizing a 96-hour liberty period for all non-essential military personnel assigned to Camp Lejeune, MCAS New River and MCAS Cherry Point installations beginning at 4:30 p.m. today, Sept. 4 and ending at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2019. This period is to allow service members and their families to get out of the path of the storm without burning leave. It is your responsibility to communicate with your chain of command to determine whether you are essential or non-essential. Standard 96 liberty boundaries and rules apply. Additionally, there will be accountability and reporting requirements daily. I need each and every Marine and Sailor executing this 96 out of the area to keep their chain of command informed of their whereabouts.

Wallace Creek Fitness Center and Tarawa Terrace Elementary School at Camp Lejeune and AS-4400 at MCAS New River are scheduled to open their shelters at 8:00 a.m. on Sept. 5 to DoD ID cardholders. Wallace Creek Fitness Center is the only pet-friendly shelter. Pets must be in a hardened crate, and owners must bring vaccination records, food, water and medicine to last at least three days.

Mess Halls across the installation will serve meals until tomorrow evening and then re-open as soon as possible after the storm passes. All service members and civilians are authorized to dine in these establishments; cash payments only will be accepted.

Camp Lejeune's Piney Green Gate will close at 6:00 p.m. tonight and will not reopen until its regularly scheduled time Monday, Sept. 9. Commercial traffic can use the base's Main Gate on Holcomb Blvd. or the Sneads Ferry Gate as long as the bridge remains open. MCAS New River will close its Douglas Gate entrance this evening at 6:00 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, Sept. 9 as well. Camp Lejeune's Contractor Vetting Office and the Visitor Center will be closed Sept 5-6. Normal operations will resume Sept 9, 2019.

As of 1:00 p.m. today, Onslow Beach is closed.

Once the storm passes, our Public Works damage assessment teams will canvass the area to do a visual inspection of structures on Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River. Building occupants should get in and inspect their facilities as soon as it is safe to do so, and report HURRICANE-RELATED damage through their S4/G4 representatives with the word "DORIAN" at the beginning of the description line. If there is water intrusion, squeegee or wet-vac all possible water from the space, remove wet items or throw rugs, wet-vac water from water-soaked carpets. Do not rip up carpets until receiving permission from Public Works. Wet ceiling tiles, and insulation should be removed. If
air conditioning is operational, do not open the windows. The A/C will aid in the dehumidification if the space is closed from the outside.

Don't let your guard down. And when this storm has passed, be ready to pitch in and do what you can to help our installations recover and get back to their mission of training our warriors to go into harm's way while ensuring their families are taken care of. Stay safe everyone.

FROM MCAS CHERRY POINT COMMANDING OFFICER
We are anticipating that Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point will start feeling the effects of Hurricane Dorian by Thursday and into Friday if the current forecast holds.

As we continue to monitor the progress of the storm system, you can be assured that my focus is on ensuring the safety of our community and keeping you informed as things evolve.

As the commanding officer of MCAS Cherry Point, I have not issued any order of evacuation for the installation’s residents (or members assigned or attached). I realize that our service members, civilians and their families reside in many places outside the installation, and situations vary from location to location. If you reside off base, you should not wait on an order from me in deciding to evacuate your residence. I urge you to be wise in making such decisions of sheltering in-place or relocating to weather the storm. Generally, follow the guidance of your respective city or county. Also, contact your respective chain of command or supervisor to ensure any administrative requirements are accomplished as you activate your family preparedness plans.

Non-essential personnel are not required to report to work Thursday or Friday. Government employees will be placed in an administrative leave status. Commanders and supervisors determine their essential personnel. Personnel should contact their chain of command or work supervisor to be sure. MCCS employees should contact their supervisors for reporting instructions.

I echo what was stated yesterday by the MCIEast commanding general, we are encouraging individual commands to authorize their Marines and Sailors leave if they are not required for hurricane recovery operations or other mission essential commitments. Additionally, inbound or PCSing personnel should contact their respective commands for further guidance regarding adjusted arrival times or locations.

We have been monitoring this storm for a number of days now, and it is showing itself to be quite unpredictable. Therefore we have to be patient, ready and flexible. Continue to monitor official sources of information, and do what’s necessary to ensure you make it through the storm.
Stay safe,
Col Mikel Huber
