Fire danger today ranging from Moderate to Extreme across the state, with a Fire Weather Watch issued by the US National Weather Service Bismarck in place for tomorrow in the NW.

IF you can burn today, stay with your burn piles until totally extinguished AND COOLED as piles can and do reignite in winds days later.

A fire emergency and burn ban has been declared for Traill County. The ban includes burning of garbage/pit burning, burning of farmland, cropland and/or ditches without permission from designated fire authorities to remain in effect when the fire danger rating is in the VERY HIGH, EXTREME, or RED FLAG WARNING.

This fire declaration and burn ban will expire on November 1st unless otherwise deemed necessary by the Board of Traill County Commissioners.

Steele Counties Daily Fire Danger Rating Index is Very High and Traill Counties Daily Fire Danger Rating Index is Moderate. While there are no current burn bans in place for Steele and Traill Counties, we encourage you to check your specific area, check the weather, local fire danger, and burn restrictions before you burn any debris or trash. Clear brush, keep water and tools nearby, and never leave fires unattended.

Sheriffs Hunt and Beckman are advising NO TRAVEL in Traill and Steele Counties. Please listen to that advice and stay off the roads. Visibility, especially in open areas, is low. Even if you think you are a good driver, others are not, and skill has nothing to do with driving in this weather, since visibility is reduced.
From the National Weather Service out of Grand Forks, becoming stranded in this weather could be life threatening. EMS WILL have a hard time getting to you.

Blizzard Warning in effect for Traill County beginning Thursday at 3am. Whiteout conditions are expected, which will make travel difficult to near impossible. Please, if you do not have to travel, stay home and off the roads.

Blizzard conditions are forecast late tonight into Thursday. Whiteout conditions will create impossible travel over portions of the region. Areas in red will see the highest impacts from blowing snow, but visibility will be extremely poor in all areas while snow is falling.
