September is Su***de Prevention Month, and for all of us at GVO, this one is personal. We also believe that every month should be su***de prevention month.
Jared Curry was our brother and friend.
He was an HM2 (FMF) Navy Corpsman and decorated combat veteran, an accomplished self-taught guitarist, a licensed massage therapist, a student of many schools, and a reader of all the books. He was always learning, questioning, searching, and taking care of other people.
We lost Jared to su***de, but su***de isn’t Jared’s story.
His story is the music, the books, the service, the friendships, the ridiculous conversations, and all the stories we still tell about him.
That’s why GVO continues to honor him through the Jared Curry Memorial Scholarship and why we’ll keep saying his name.
Check on your people. Especially the strong ones, the funny ones, and the ones who always seem to have it handled.
We miss you, Jared. We miss Bill Yeti.
Your friends haven’t forgotten you. Your brothers haven’t forgotten you. And GVO will keep your name going.
If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988. Veterans can call 988 and press 1.
