Piney Woods Conservation Group

Piney Woods Conservation Group The Piney Woods Conservation Group is a nonprofit conservation organization in the Pine Belt.

Its mission is to conserve, promote and protect the open spaces and green places of environmental or scenic significance in the Pine Belt. The area being served by the Piney Woods Conservation Group is rich in bio-diversity and unique to the world. Many irreplaceable habitats are found within its boundaries, including freshwater rivers and marshes, oxbow lakes, pine savannas, upland pine forests,

bayhead forests, hardwood swamps and many other habitats all interactive and all essential to our environment. Our rapidly growing population, industrial development and desire to live in the midst of our beautiful, but fragile areas, threatens our biologically diverse environment and causes destruction of our exceptional quality of life. Because of these threats, it is necessary for all of us to practice far greater conservation of our natural resources than ever before.

🌎🍻 Thank You to Our Sustainability Partners! 🍻🌎

A special thank you to our 12th Annual Hattiesburg Craft Beer Festival Sustainability Partners — Waste Pro, Piney Woods Conservation Group, and Kick Glass — for helping us ensure we leave as small a footprint as possible on our community. 🙌

We’re also grateful to Hattiesburg Parks & Recreation and the City of Hattiesburg-Government Recycling team for working alongside us to make responsible waste management a priority.

Together, we’re committed to:
♻️ Recycling all cans and glass bottles
🚮 Reducing waste wherever possible
🌱 Protecting our parks and public spaces
💚 Creating a more sustainable festival experience

If you’re interested in learning more about Piney Woods Conservation Group or how to get involved with Kick Glass Hburg, Hattiesburg’s new glass recycling initiative, stop by Southern Prohibition from 5–8 PM on Thursday, March 12! Bring your glass bottles to crush into sand and see sustainability in action. 🥂➡️🌫️

PWCG is hosting a First Day Hike on New Year’s Day!!!

Start the new year with adventure by joining us for the First Day Hike on New Year’s Day 2026! This scenic trek on the Black Creek National Recreation Trail is a great way to embrace your new fitness goals, spend time with family and friends, and connect with nature. Lace up your hiking boots and kickoff the year in the great outdoors!

This section of the trail is within the Black Creek Wilderness, the largest federally-designated wilderness area in the state AND home to one of only two waterfalls in the entire 519,000 acre De Soto National Forest - Mill Creek. No experience necessary - just bring your appetite for adventure (and maybe some snacks for the hike *and* after).

See you out there:
