Heart of Mississippi A Non Profit Organization The leading cause of death in the U.S. among men and women is heart disease. Heart Disease kills more women than all cancers combined.

Every year about 785,000 Americans have a first heart attack. Another 470,000 who have already had one or more heart attacks have another attack. Approximately every 25 seconds, an American will have a coronary event, and approximately every minute, someone will die of one. Mississippi is ranked among the highest in the nation in prevalence of cardiovascular disease. In 2008 cardiovascular disease

caused 1 of every 6 deaths in the United States *
Heart disease accounts for 1 of every 10 deaths in the State of Mississippi. Mississippi has the highest mortality (death rate) from cardiovascular disease of any state in the United States. In 2007 heart disease alone accounted for 4,114 female deaths in Mississippi
Heart Disease and stroke account for 36.7% of all female deaths in Mississippi. On average, nearly 14 women die from heart disease and stroke in Mississippi each day.

The Rapha Clinic of West Georgia will hold its second “Talk With a Doc” — a live virtual event featuring Laura Larson, MD, medical director of infection prevention for Tanner Health System — on Sunday, March 21 at 7 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning about basic health info, COVID-19 or vaccinations will have the opportunity to ask questions. A physician who has been on the front line of the pandemic, Dr. Larson will do her best to provide participants with answers in real time.
