Does breast or ovarian cancer run in your family? πŸ’—

Swipe to see when to ask your doctor for a risk check. In a study of nearly 30,000 women with breast cancer, Black and white women carried inherited gene changes like BRCA at about the same rate. So this is our issue too. A risk check can lead to genetic counseling, and that can protect the women coming behind you.

Save this and bring it up at the next family gathering. πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

A cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the person receiving it. It impacts the entire family, including the children trying to make sense of it all. πŸ’—

When Celeste was diagnosed with breast cancer, her daughter, Carmen, was only in middle school. At that age, she didn’t fully understand what the diagnosis meant or what to expect. Her initial thought was one no child wants to face: Was she going to lose her mom?

In this emotional moment from β€œOur House, Our Fight,” Carmen reflects on hearing about her mother’s diagnosis and the uncertainty she experienced as a young girl.

Her perspective is a powerful reminder that behind every diagnosis is a family navigating its own emotions, fears, and unanswered questions.

Because cancer doesn’t just affect one person. The entire family feels it.

If breast or ovarian cancer runs in your family, ask your doctor about genetic counseling. πŸ’—

A large study found that among women with breast cancer, Black and white women carry these inherited gene changes at about the same rate. So don't let anybody tell you this isn't our issue. It's not just for you. It's for your daughters and your granddaughters.

Save this for the next family gathering, and tag the cousin who needs to hear it. πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

That Donna Karan Cashmere Mist deodorant all over my TikTok! I scanned it with the free Clearya app, and it flagged 15 things. πŸ’—

4 potentially toxic: BHT, Cyclopentasiloxane, Talc and PEG-8 Distearate. 9 fragrance allergens. 1 ingredient restricted in Europe and Canada: aluminum, the part that stops sweat.

Aluminum has been found in breast tissue, and researchers are still studying what that means. And 1 word, "fragrance," that can hide a whole lot.

Talc? We're leaving it on the shelf. It can be contaminated with asbestos, and the World Health Organization's cancer agency called talc "probably" cancer-causing in 2024. An app is a starting point, not the final word. Read the label, then decide.

Swipe through all 5 slides and save this for your next shopping trip. What should I scan next? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Non-Toxic Tuesday: scan before you buy. πŸ’—

Friend, say it with me: READ THE INGREDIENTS. This deodorant is all over my TikTok, so I checked it with the free Clearya app while I shopped. Watch what it flagged, step by step. Talc? We're leaving it on the shelf.

In 2024, the World Health Organization's cancer agency called talc "probably" cancer-causing, and in 2021 the National Council of Negro Women sued Johnson & Johnson over marketing talc powder to Black women.

(J&J says its talc is safe.)

An app is a starting point, not a final answer, so read the label too. Scan one product you use this week and tell me what you found.

πŸ’— Pray. Eat well. Rest. Those things help, and they go WITH treatment, not instead of it.

A national study followed women with breast cancer for 5 years: 87% who got standard treatment were still alive, compared with 58% who used only alternative medicine.

If someone you love is thinking about skipping treatment, send her this.

Myth Monday: "Natural remedies alone can cure breast cancer." πŸ’—

They told me to pray. Eat well. Rest. I did all of that, and I did it WITH my treatment, not instead of it. A national study found that after 5 years, 87% of women with breast cancer who got standard treatment were still here, compared with 58% of women who chose only alternative medicine.

If you or a friend is thinking about alternative medicine, look up all the facts first.

At the end of the day, we just want you here.

Today is World Menopause Day. πŸ’—

Breast cancer treatment brought on my menopause, and the hot flashes were real. The usual menopause hormone therapy? Doctors generally don't recommend it after breast cancer.

My doctor prescribed Veozah, a medicine with no hormones in it, and I keep up with the liver blood tests it needs. Swipe for what helps, save this, and take it to your next appointment.

Ask your doctor before you start any medicine or supplement.

Survivors, what's helped you? πŸ‘‡πŸΎ
