An event like Day at the Docks takes a lot of dedicated souls to pull it off. We couldn't do it without all the volunteers and people who had a hand in it. From selling baked goods to t-shirts, to cooking shrimp, setting up tables and chairs or breaking them down, there's a lot that goes into this behind the scenes. We just want to send up a special thanks to a couple people who spearheaded or helped spearhead some of our bigger events. Capt. Sue Garrett and Laura Young and crew do a great job of organizing and doing the youth fishing tournament and Nicole Fairbanks and crew continue to make the Concrete Marlin was one the most exciting events. Nathan Snead for his incredible stamina standing over the grill all day and also to Barbara Garrity-Blake and Lynne Foster for their help with the Seafood Throwdown. Thank to all, we really couldn't have done it without you!

Great day, so much happening, so much to see and do. Thankful for a beautiful day to gather and celebrate. Talked about some current issues and ate some good food. Thanks to ALL who made this event another success and a memory worth keeping. You are much APPRECIATED and valued. Now... we rest.

We went out on the docks early in the kid's fishing tournament to check it out, lines in the water! It was a BLAST watching and hearing these kids, y'all! One had just landed a puffer. If you see NOTHING else, you have to go see this part! No scores have been submitted yet, we don't know who won yet. But it was FUN!

The Seafood Throwdown winner this year, after a hard fought battle, was Tyler Naughton of Toucana Grill. Hatteras. Lord, y'all. They tied last year. We rematched. They TIED AGAIN. The official rules say if that happens, the crowd decides some way. Emcee Blake called on a local commercial fishman to do a taste and make the call. He called it for Tyler stating that the traditional preparation of the mystery fish sold it for him. The mystery fish was... jumping mullet. Never had it but supposedly distinctive and delicious, did Jeffrey's Seafood kick off a new fad? It sure never looked more fancy than presented to the judges this afternoon! We want to thank ALL who participated and especially those from Toucana Grill and Chef Brandyn at Froggy Dog in Avon!

CALLING ALL BAKERS!!!

The HVCA needs your help! As I’m sure you’ve heard, we will be selling Dockside Tacos on Saturday to help offset the expenses required to put on this wonderful celebration. We would like to sell desserts as well but need some help. If anyone would be willing to make/donate a dessert, it would be incredibly appreciated! Anything is wonderful as long as it can be individually packaged. You are welcome to drop it off at the food tent Saturday morning or at the Civic Center on Friday before 4pm. Many Thanks!!
