For nearly 145 years, the women of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic have worked quietly behind the scenes to ensure that history is not forgotten.

Long after the last Union veterans returned home, LGAR members continued their work preserving records, caring for memorials, supporting patriotic education, marking graves, and passing the stories of the Civil War generation to those who came after them.

History survives because someone chooses to protect it.

Today, we honor the generations of women who understood that preserving the past is not simply about remembering names and dates, it is about safeguarding the lessons, sacrifices, and values that shaped our nation.

As we look ahead to America's 250th anniversary, the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic remain committed to that mission.

🇺🇸 Preserving the past. Inspiring the future. Since 1881.
