What a way to wrap up the year! 🎉 Last Wednesday, the Leadership Hastings Class of 2025–2026 took on their FINAL class day, and it was the perfect way to reflect on an incredible year together through our Local Area Tour Class Day.

The morning kicked off with leadership training led by Valerie Bren, CCC Leadership Development Trainer, who shared valuable insights to help continue growing strong leaders in our community.

Next, the class got an inside look at the Hastings Municipal Airport with a presentation and tour from Matt Kuhr. The group learned more about airport operations and even got a preview of exciting plans for the 2027 State Airshow!

The class then headed to the Theater District to explore the exciting new development taking shape where the former Imperial Mall once stood. Members heard updates from Prairie Reed Properties before stopping by LD Coffee to hear more about Sidy’s inspiring coffee journey. The morning wrapped up at Midwest Spine & Function, where Dr. Nathan Hinrichs shared his story of becoming both a chiropractor and entrepreneur.

Our final look at Leadership Hastings April Law and Legal Class Day!

One of the most exciting parts of the day was getting an inside look at the important work our law enforcement officers do behind the scenes. At the City of Hastings Police Department, the class participated in a series of hands-on presentations and demonstrations, including crime scene processing, equipment and training overviews, a drug awareness presentation, and even a K-9 demonstration featuring the class’s very own Officer Grady Gardner.

A big thank you to everyone at the Hastings Police Department for making this session possible, and to the Hastings Fraternal Order of Police for sponsoring lunch.

Law and Legal Day is empowering these leaders with knowledge they can bring back and share throughout the community!

Another look at LH’s Law and Legal Class Day!

What better way to explore the law and legal system than learning directly from the professionals who work in it every day?

The class first heard from Donna Fegler, Adams County Attorney, who shared insights into the day-to-day operations of the Adams County Attorney’s Office and what her role looks like in practice.

Next, Valerie Bren, CCC Leadership Development Coordinator, helped students strengthen their emotional intelligence skills by working through real-world challenges and exploring how to identify and develop effective solutions.

To wrap up the morning, District 10 County Court Judge Michael O. Mead joined the class and provided a behind-the-scenes look at what happens in the district court system on a daily basis.

What an incredible day of learning and engagement for the class—and it’s not over yet! Stay tuned next week for highlights from class’s visit to the police station!

Let’s take a flashback look at April’s Leadership Hastings Law & Legal Class Day. The April session offered an engaging, behind-the-scenes look at the law and legal system in Adams County, Nebraska.

The morning began with a tour of both the new and old Adams County Jail, where participants gained insight into the day-to-day operations that take place behind the scenes in correctional facilities.

Mike Dormeus, Jail Administrator of the Adams County Justice Center, guided the group through the new facility, providing an in-depth explanation of its operations and how the Justice Center functions on a daily basis.

The class then traveled to the third floor of the Adams County Courthouse, where they toured the former county jail. Chief Deputy Kevin Mauck led the tour, sharing the history of the facility and explaining the reasons behind the jail expansion and modernization.

We would like to congratulate the Leadership Hastings Class of 2025–2026 on the successful completion of their class project—a community soup feed benefiting Our Little Angels, an outstanding nonprofit dedicated to a truly meaningful cause.

The class came together to prepare a wonderful assortment of soups for the community to enjoy, raising over $2,200 in support of Our Little Angels.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support!

Congratulations to the entire class for taking the next steps in developing your leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in support of an incredible organization!
